I saw a few pics of your rescue boat and am wondering how much it would cost to make one, or if you know a way to make one under $50(not including engine & prop) just pontoons, hardware, & radio gear?

Blue,

I am a Plane and car guy as well, getting more interested in Boats (the Gravity thing is getting old) saw the same pic in a mag and working on the exact same pick up boat. I am going a step further to widen the base and have a platform drop below the water to pick the boat up (it's a strech) . When I start it, I will send picks along the way.

Minus prop and electronics, I am into this boat about $15. I paid $10 for the pontoons, a couple bucks for the wood. Everything else, I made by hand, including the rudder systam and steering linkage.

could you tell me the demensions of the pontoons, and where you got them. I have two 380 motors that I could use( im swapping them out for two 480's in my EP high wind)

also, some info on the electronics and rudder would be good.

The bracket that hangs down off the rear and the servomount that is mounted to the bracket was made out of aluminum. You can buy it in 10' lengths at Home Depot for under $10, i always have a selection of the stuff, i use it for all my projects. If you have a brazing torch, you can heat the aluminum and it will bend and twist like butter. That's how I made the rear system.

The rudder and pivot are brass sheet and brass tube, brazed (soldered) together. I pick that stuff up at my LHS, always have a selection of that around.

The pontoons are syrofoam with plastic bottom, made by GWS. Make no mistake, they are the cheapest you can get. If you can get some nicer ones, do it, but these work fine.

I used all the stock electronics from a Zagi flying wing, I don't know what any of the specs are.

Not yet, no. I got into the rescue boat, then I had to rebuild my 3.3 Nitro Vee, blah blah blah, I just haven't had time to play around with it lately.

As I stated in an earlier message, I am building a simalar rescue boat. How does the Zagi motor and ESC do under load? I was considering a Monster Brushless with 4 inch pitch for more power and speed.

I figured out a really cheap way to make this boat ,or atleast cheap compared to what some rescue boats cost. Im going to use 4 2-leiter soda bottles and attach them to a platform about 12 inches up. on it will be either a 480 or a 600 electric motor, depending on how much weight needs to be pushed. I will buy a radio set with the radio, receiver, and a sevo to turn the rudder. Then get a esc and batt and will be ready to go.

the way i figure I will use to get the boat back is some mesh in the back end of the resuce boat and just pull the boat uder the rescue boat.
