DS,
I didn't know they flew on different frequencies than we did.
Bev

I also believe, from what I grasp, that over here in the good ol' US of A we share the frequency with some other uses (is it radio of some kind) where as in mighty Blighty I believe the RC air frequency is solely reserved, the BMFA is a good organisation. Shame about the lack of good flying weahter over there.

J

J,
Sorry, I missed your post a few days ago. I had thought we didn't share our frequency with anyone else. Perhaps Miles or Ken can shed light, but from what I understood it was reserved for RC planes only and controlled by the FCC. I was told recently about Homeland Security "repeaters" that bounce back all types of signals, but other than that, I'm clueless!
Bev

Don't worry you are no less knowledgable than me, from what I understood was that our frequency is kinda interlaced with another user kind of they are on channel 23 and a half etc, this is the reason why we can change are tx crystals or so I hear, but then I could be completely wrong.

On a different note, I got myself a skyraider mark II the other day what a blast great plane for just 60 bucks (sheldon's hobbies is moving and having just the biggest sale) it even has the dayglo pink under it.

J

The FCC has reserved our frequencies (the band allocated to Radio Control), aircraft specific, as 72.010 MHz to 72.990 MHz. There are also frequencies allocated in the 50 MHz band but those can only be used by people that have an FCC Radio Operators License. There are different frequencies for boats and cars too, but I won't list them here as that does not apply to us.

The reason for the spread between frequencies is to prevent any cross inteference between channels caused by some sort of over modulation or slightly off-frequency transmitters. The bandwidth for our transmitters is centered on the frequency of your particular channel (Channel 11 for instance is 72.010 MHz) and the bandwidth provides for modulation on that center frequency.

Does that help?

Bev, I do have some pictures of the B-29 but they are at home on my other PC. I will attach to a reply tonite. I didn't make a video of the formation flying, thought I took a picture but cannot find it... may have been to awestruck watching them fly to remember to take a picture..ha.. But, it was indeed impressive.

DS.

I have been looking and can't find the specifics, but we do share the 72MHZ band with other users, I don't remember who, and from what I have read in Futaba's website it is illegal to swap out the transmitter crystal. You have to send the transmitter off to LEGALLY change the crystal. The only transmitters that are legal to change frequencies are the ones with the frequency modules in the back. receivers are a different story.

50MHZ is in the ham band and we are afforded more power also, but as noted above requires an amateur operators license.

2.4GHZ is now available in Spread Spectrum and is suppose to cure all of our frequency problems. (yeah right). The only dealer that I have found with this technology is www.horizonhobby.com with the Spektrum name brand. I wonder how close this is to cordless phone, cell phone, and wireless networking?

27 MHZ is the only other band available to us but is too close to the CB band to use.

By the way, Bev, I liked your Thanksgiving centerpiece.

Nick,
Congratulations and welcome to the addiction!!! And at such a perfect time of year....easy Christmas ideas for Nick's gifts!!!
Ken, what happened to my "ATTAGIRL"?????
Bev

Did I miss it when you soloed Bev???

Ken

Ken,How's this for switching threads? Yes you did miss it...my bad, I didn't post it. Actually, David Storer, my instructor, never got the chance to solo me...I was at the field late one Sunday afternoon, around 8 pm in the beginning of June. Eddie, one of our top pilots, had me up on my radio with a buddy box, and he laid down on the edge of the runway with my radio lying in front of him, (kids, don't try this at home) and I stood next to him and practiced touch n go's with the Kadet Senior. Every time it dead sticked (at least 3 times pe flight) he ran out to the runway and restarted it...while he walked back, I would take-off again and then hand him my radio so he could lie back down and I again flew with the buddy box. He never had to rescue me so one time when he was walking back up the runway after restarting the plane, I took off and decided to immediately bring it around and land on my own before he got back. He just smiled and said "Beverly, you don't need a buddy box any more, you can fly on your own." Of course he usually says "Guy's have b*lls Beverly, you gotta have b**bs...just do it!"
Unfortunately, there was no one left at the field that day to see my first solo

Bev

J,I know the plane you bought. Everyone who has a SkyRaider Mach II tells me they love it... there is also a thread here in beginners that people were raving about it. You say dayglo pink underneath? That's with the red tail right? My "Son of SkyRaider, The Amphibious" was the red tail, pink underbelly high wing model before it went swimming... I was SO HAPPY to have a plane with bright pink on it and then.....oops! Now the only pink left is under the back half of the fuselage, and under the horizontal stab. I think I paid $66 for mine. They really are a great deal.

DS,
How would we be affected by the "repeaters"? Are we talking a few seconds or longer? There are mobile repeaters (owned by homeland security I am told) that frequent our area.
Looking forward to seeing the B-29.

JR,
I've heard about it being illegal to swap out crystals, but I've also heard that you can swap out crystals in high band or low band depending on what frequency you have to begin with. I haven't tried it myself, although people at my field say it is done all the time in the hobby. I believe that Futaba is coming out with a "spectrum type" transmitter. I'm happy with my Futaba 7cap...hopefully my channel buddies will all want the new stuff
Thanks for the compliment...it was a fun picture to do. That's an antique control line plane. I'll have to take a picture of it and post it one of these days.
Bev

O.K. so I went to my monthly MPPA club picnic Saturday morning, and had only intended to stay for about an hour (one of my dog's died in the wee hours of the morning...I wasn't in a good mood, but went anyway) and was cheered up by everyone. Got to drive David Storer's (instructor extraordinaire) brand new Jeep Wranger he had just picked up from the dealer...that baby can move...what 15 mph speed limit? Ate great food! Saw lots of friends! Ended up posing for pictures in our new MPPA hats and shirts! Even had one of my friends Yves, surprise me by showing up at the field (I swear I'm going to get him sucked into this hobby...he used to race RC boats and even gave me a brand new still in the box OS 40max) All in all a great day, I was there till 3:30 and I didn't even fly!!!!! Terrence said I should take a picture of all the planes in my car... Look at the stuff in the back of my SUV...I could start my own hobby shop!
