CJ, I hear ya!!! That reminds me, I better haul the planes, radio, and field box in out of the SUV and start charging now. My neighborhood loses power if you sneeze hard. So much for the merits of underground utilities. I did drive over to the park this morning to ask them to take down the pictures and ads on the bulletin board and secure the glass lid on the other one. I put all my plastic chairs in the ladies room yesterday for safe keeping. I hope the impound/channel shed is well built!!! Hope to see you Thursday morning as well. Stay safe!!!
Bev

Urrrggg,

I feel your pain with this crazy storm. It's really hampered my flying time. Here in the Daytona Beach Area we're expecting 35mph to 70mph wind gusts with plenty of rain. Dratz! Hopefully, it'll be through quickly and we can all get back into the air.

Regards
Mike

Hey Bev, Did you get to see the pictures of the field after Wilma? I'll try to find them again to show you! It was one big lake!

Mike, Currently watching our local news coverage. Poor reporters have been on for over 36 hours straight now...we just love high intensity breaking news coverage down here in South Florida. At any rate, the news is cautiously optimistic...looks like it will stay a tropical storm...we'll try to squeeze all the rain and wind out of it before it gets to you.
Bev

CJ, No I didn't get to see the pictures, and yes I would really like to. As I recall, the park was closed for over a month...I couldn't even go on my daily 5-6 mile walks there for a while...(notice that since I started flying, the only walking I do out there now is from the pits to the taxiway and vice-versa!!!) LOL

So is this the condition of the park now or before when it flooded?

Geistware, This was the park after Hurricane Wilma. The park is the northwest corner of that "spaghetti bowl" of interstate pictured. The field being the extreme SE corner of it. After extremely heavy rains, the middle of our field does turn into sort of a bog. You could actually take off with a pontoon plane if you wanted. .....Hurricane Watch was just lifted moments ago for the state of Florida, and the Tropical Storm seems to be fizzling. Just a big rain event and 45 mph winds...Thank God!!!

OK I just looked it up on google earth.
You are in the NW corner of the I-75 & I-595 interchange.
On the SE corner of the park.
Have you guys ever lost one over the freeways?
I guess if you lived at the Bonaventure CC you would be doing great.
You need to find and sell me a house over there so I can spend more time flying!

We have had a $14.000 jet spectacularely crash against the overpass and other crash past the bridge into the florida highway patrol's parking lot. We almost got closed! Glow and gassers always stay in the park!

Geistware, You are correct about our field location. And yes, planes have been lost over I-595 and State Rd 84 to the south, up over the Sawgrass flyover to the east, and eaten by every tree and lake inside the park! Friends of mine told me they plowed a piper cub into the guard rail of the sawgrass flyover just last year. As a lifelong Realtor, just let me know when you're ready to move on down to the "Sunshine (most of the time) State"! By the way, in the photo series that Lautermilch did of me, the raised freeway you can see in the background is the Sawgrass flyover. Remember neither that nor 595 existed when the field was dedicated.

hello Bev, i have been watching this thread since it's inception, and it seems like you have reached the pinnacle in the popularity stakes, and so you should. It is gratifying to see a lady entering this hobby, and succeeding so well.

How about a young lady not only flying in but competing and WINNING the 2005 Bladder Grabber contest last year? The Bladder Grabber is one of the elite triple elimination events for AMA Fast Combat (control line) where the action is fast and furious. Nelson and Fora .36 engines screaming at 25,000 RPM and two models maneuvering with lightning speed - all withing a 120' hemisphere and speeds over 120 MPH.

Bladder Grabber

PipeMajor, Wow, how long has Milissa been flying? We have a control line field out at our airfield, and several men who fly there almost daily. When you say combat, do you mean streamers?
Bev

Hi Bev,

Think about the pattern crowd... would love to have a female on the SE pattern scene....

PatternPilot, Is pattern the same as IMAC? Do you compete? If so, what type and size planes?
