If you are joining the wings of your plane you should use 30-minute epoxy. First of all 30-minute epoxy makes stronger bonds and will give you a stronger joint. Second, you may find that the 5-6 minutes you have to work with the 5-minute epoxy usually isn't enough to properly get epoxy on the parts, get the wing halves slid together, align the wing halves, and then secure them until the epoxy is completely cured.

I almost never use 5-minute epoxy as I just don't think the joints are as strong as 30 minute (or higher) epoxy. When joining parts that require epoxy you shouldn't get in a hurry and use an epoxy that set quicky just to speed up the assembly process. You'll usually pay for that when the joint fails in flight.

Status: offline 		RCKen is right, use 30 minute epoxy whenever possible, it is much stronger. The advantage is that you can use less of it, therefore making the build lighter. Don't hurry your build, take your time and do it right. The only thing I use 5 minute epoxy for is fuel proofing the firewall.
Again, take your time, do it right and the airplane will not only last but will fly better too.

Bev, I moved from the PacNW to the Twin Cities in '95 so didn't know Milissa. I did know Tony Huber - her uncle. He and Tom Strom used to fly R/C Formula 1 Pylon but got into C/L combat. One of Tom's sons (shown in the photos within the Bladder Grabber link) won the Nationals in AMA Fast Combat as a Junior competitor - flew against and *beat* all the open class fliers some years back.

Yes, in C/L combat they use streamers. You get points for each "cut" on your opponent's streamer, points for each second being airborne and a "kill" ends the match when you cut the string leader between the model and streamer.

Bob, Can't wait to see a picture of the finished plane!!! Don't forget the stripes. You'll have to bring the family down here on "vacation" so you can fly at our field. We definitely have warmer winters than New Jersey!!

You really should make it to the Summer's End meet at our club. We are in Belleview (US 441/27) right outside the Villages. It will be on the 16th and the 17th. Doubledee & RCKen, Seeing as I have both types of epoxy, I will definitely use the 30 minute like you say for all plane builds. I like the idea of the 5 minute for fuel proofing. Not sure which we used when doing the same in the nose area of the sky raider...I do remember that we did fuel proof it though.

PipeMajor, Thanks for the info. Melissa's family sounds quite talented. Hopefully one of these days I will get to see a combat competition. I'll check with our control line fliers to see if they ever practice combat with each other. At least I could see that. I'm not sure when there has been a contest at our field for the control line group...this weekend is another pylon race. (another group of very speedy planes!)

Don't think I can make it up there this time, but hopefully by the next one I will. Make sure you post pictures of the event on your club web site. I'll be sure to check them out. Status: offline 		Bill, Looking forward to your visit. I think you will really like our field, as well as our pilots. Do you fly with a Futaba or JR radio? I'm Futaba. Since I haven't flown a Cap or a Yak yet, the experience should be great. What size Ultimate do you have? I've only flown Eddie's once. (no take-offs or landings of course) Today the weather was beautiful for the first time in over a week. (I haven't flown in 9 days.) Jim Perdue, a pylon racer and board member of one of the MPPA club re-drilled the setup and redid the linkage for my nose gear today. While he did that, Joel, club trainer for BCRCA put me up on his Stinger....first time for me to fly it. I really love flying all the different types of planes. It helps me get a feel for the sticks quicker than just flying my Sky Raider. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be nice weather as well...I'm itching to get airborne.
