Bill, And yes, none of you put on BAND AIDS! You would probably just CA gashes instead of getting stitches if you could get away with it! Bev
SPAYED ????? URK !!!!!! Bill, AMA 4720 WACO Brotherhood #1 Honest, I have actually done that. It really works very well too. My next door neighbor (A Medical Doctor) was amazed at how it worked. No scar either. Take that.

Bill, I have heard that as well (In fact my vet used some sort of super-glue to close the incision on my cat when they spayed her...I know...TMI!!!) Bev

Bev, Looking at the picture and the cabinet just above the plane! You don't throw many parties do you! I will bring the ice, looks like you have everything else. The party once we leave Markham field is at Bev's house!
Hi Miles!Yes, the cupboard is well equipped! Who has time to party when you can fly?...although I did bring a bottle of white zin out to the field Tuesday for our cookout. Too windy to fly, but not too windy to eat!!! Careful, it doesn't take much to get this group in the party and talk planes mood! I'll let you know when I break down and throw a pilot party! (yes, you're down for the ice) Bev

Bill, CA crossed my mind last week when a gentleman got whacked 3 times in the back of the hand my his "electric prop". Lots and lots of blood...he was on blood thinners at the time. A friend of mine got to him first, and had me get tape to hold paper towels on the wounds till the EMT got there. I drove him to the hospital and all is well now...5 stitches in one, 3 in the second, and none on the third. Planes can be nasty creatures!! Bev PS. I CA'd a broken fingernail this morning...works!

Hey, the ice and first round is on me!
I tend to council all of our electric flying members to put there throttles on a safety switch. Just mix the throttle to itself enabled by a switch. That way you can play all you want but the propeller will not turn unless the throttle and switch are both in the right <wrong> position.

Ok, question from one beginner to another "sorta" beginner. I've been flying my electric RTF for about a month now. I'm very good in the air with it and decent on landings. I even fly it in pretty heavy winds at times and still control it with relative ease. I want to upgrade after this year to a gas plane. How much more difficult is building an ARF compared to an RTF? Are there any advantages to an ARF? I do plan on getting flying lessons from someone experienced though. I'm just lost on the the pre-flying issues, like building it and what not.

Assembling an ARF is not hard just requires patience. Just put the pieces together and add glue! It is a lot easier than building a kit. I know this from experence.

Oh dear Gentlemen!!! I haven't posted in a while, have I? Time to bring you up to speed with the good, the bad, and the truly ugly!!! First the bad: I had a wire come loose in my aileron servo about a month ago...no problem...the guys at the field scrounged a servo out of my other wing, and voila...ready for takeoff!!! Now picture this...strong crosswind on the runway, and me taking off straight out the taxiway, across the runway...normally not a problem for my Sky Raider...except when it went to roll right on the takeoff, so I gave it left aileron...which rolled it full RIGHT, and straight into the center of the runway at full throttle...I had replaced a futaba servo with a hitech...I didn't know about servos being reversed...OOPS! Broke the muffler, tore off the carburetor, and destroyed the plane back to the firewall...all in about the time span of 3.5 seconds!!! I had at least 150 flights on that plane...so I speed dialed Warrick Custom Hobbies and picked up a new one that afternoon, and a new muffler! Joel built it for me...he's the best!!! Here's a picture... Next posting will be the truly ugly...yes it gets worse, but funny...... Bev

Bev,
The Sky Raider appears fixable from the picture. Looks like the School of Hard Knocks Dean, Murphy, extracted some tuition from ya - every time you taking the runway, always check the control surface throw just before you taxi out. I've found controls that where not working correctly performing this check (which I do before every flight), which in one case saved trashing a buddies plane.

CJ, Yes, that's the new one! I've been flying right pattern the past few days...still trying to master that right hand approach lining up with the trees over the Sawgrass Expressway flyover. Bev

Hogflyer, Although from the picture it looks fixable, the covering on the Sky Raider leaves a lot to be desired...it tends to separate and peel off. The entire top of one side of the elevator peeled off in flight once...I couldn't figure out why it was suddenly flying so bad until I landed it. That plane had a LOT of packing tape holding the covering together!!! At any rate...what's left of it is in my attic. Also, I definitely check ALL my control surfaces now before every flight.....the first thing I check is the RIGHT AILERON!!!!! Bev

Thats a nice flying field youve got there. Tables, chairs, Roof, grass. very nice.
I fly in a dirty cleared section, that may well be built on soon.
At least I can go fly in my shorts and t-shirt though.
Looking at your getup while flying on you avatar (is that what its called. The picture next to your name). I think Id be banned from your club due dress code. Do the men have to fly in Top Hats and Tie
Funny, where I fly is probably like the USA 50 years ago. the rules are -- there are no rules.
Sorry about your plane, but you had a huge smile for the camera. Id be using a few colorful words-- Opps, just got banned from your club a second time in one month.
Also first flight May 2006, and youve flown a big Biplane and jet already. Not bad at all.
Happy Flying.

Hey Bev ! Nice to here from you again ! Don't feel bad I've cracked one up too since your last post ! Radio malfunction....But I think it all boils down to pilot error. I didn't do a complete pre-flight inspection ! Sorry about your loss, but as PlaneHeli said you have great smile ! Always good to see a smilin' face !
