Ken,
Aw come on ...a .22? How come I can't use that cool 50mm machine gun? I could set it up on the side of the Sawgrass Expressway flyover next to our field...the forward observer can call for fire and..."INCOMING!!!... BOOM!, no more mocassin ...perhaps no more pilot stations, pit area, FBO, the odd pilot who couldn't run fast enough...
Side note: my parents did a lot of hunting in the Everglades (for you locals...out 40 mile bend...remember Monroe Station?) The baby mocassins would float by on driftwood as my parents sloshed by chest deep holding deer rifles above their heads, Mom holding her rifle high in one hand and holding onto the back of my Dad's belt with the other as the beagles swam along side...is that true love or what?
We also have coral snakes and pygmy rattlers down here, but I haven't seen any in years...thank goodness! We have white tail deer in the park (I haven't seen any yet,) and gobs of raccoons and armadillos...plus very large iguanas ...and Osprey...which don't respond to imputs on my Futaba 7Cap and are easy to confuse with a glider at high elevation!
Ever have birds chase planes?
Bev

My turn to play snake guy...coral snakes are very rare and can only puncture soft skin with a bite (finger webbing or earlobe soft) other than that they have to chew to puncture...a Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon Pisiverous if memory serves) on the other hand are the most aggressive poisonous snake in the US...and the Eastern Diamondback (Crotalus) (which you have Bev) is considered as one of the most dangerous snakes in the world because of the size of the snake and the amount of venom they can inject, an 8 footer, though rare can inject a tablespoon per fang of hemotoxin...not generally lethal but serious damage if not treated quickly...Copperheads (Agkistrodon Contortrix) on the other hand seem as lethargic as can be until they are touched or a light is flashed..use a flash on a camera to take a pic of a coiled copperhead (in an aquarium) and the pic will come out as an open mouth, you will never see it happen... oh and boiled copperhead tastes like fish with the texture of turkey(not worth tryin twice) ..ok I work nights and its passed my bedtime.....Rog

By the way, Bev... I took both those pictures this summer on the Dora Canal, from a boat . We don't go swimming in Central Florida (except in a swimming pool) (and we check the strainer for snakes first)

Hey Ken,Guess those are true Florida(girls?) but don't look quite as good as a real Florida Girl!...........Good stuff though ! Bev, Yeah we have several events each year. My wife came with me to the "Big Bird" fly in where Mac Hodges flew his B-29 ! She was smilin' from ear to ear ! Good advise to let her get some stick time ..... If I can talk her in to it. She's a Kentucky girl....Even if I can't get her to to come to the field with me more often, Kentucky girls are hard to beat ! But shoe shopping ? You think that might really work ? Anyway, from one "pilot" to another, I'm gonna go to the field tomorrow and fly my newly configured 4*60, or as I call my "Four 60 Star".Weather up here is quickly deteriorating so I better take advantage of the 55 degree and sunsine temps ! Looks like it's almost building season here in north Tn.! Working on a 60 size P-51 and a 1.40 size P-40E! Hope to have ready for spring.Hey I'll post a pic of my "Four 60 Star" for you ! Let me know what you think of the rebuild.

Ray

Ray,
Yes, shoe shopping!!!! And honestly if you can her on the sticks, you'll probably hook her!!! The downside would be...even less money for you to spend on your planes...it will all go to HER planes! Again, thank you for the compliments! How did the Four Star 60 fly?...and where's the pic of it?
Bev

.....there are rattlesnakes or so I hear

Now there is something to get excited about. Fresh meat for dinner!!!!!!

We have plenty of rattlesnakes here in Oklahoma too. When I was in the Army here on Ft. Sill we used to go hunting for rattlesnakes when we had some free time out in the field. Seriously good eating when cooked up with some butter and onions!!!!!!!!!! Yum!!!!!!!

Ken

Ken, do you have french blood in you? The things they eat in that country scare me.

On another food related note, I hear down under they like croc, so gater meat might be nice get the BBQ out and marinate the meat nicely I think that would be nice.

J

JP,
Gator is good if prepared well, which is a good thing since we are up to our a**es in them. They serve it in restaurants here....although I'm having a brain cramp and can't think of any offhand!

Bev,
You should check out the AMP IMAC contest in February.
You will get hooked on it and move up to a trailer to go with your SUV

Rog,
I'm starting to think it may not be worth it to retrieve my plane if I land it in the field...another reason to always make the runway...even deadstick! As it is, I think I'm one of the few watching for snakes when I do stomp around the field helping people find plane parts. Hadn't heard that about Copperheads and flash...wow!...and tastes like "turkey textured fish" ....people, have no fear, I am NOT roasting a cumin, garlic and lime-rubbed copperhead for Thanksgiving

Bill,
Those were great shots...don't blame you about the swimming thing...not crazy about getting into any fresh water down here as well, and over on the west coast...like the Myakka River...that water is black as pitch...if I can't see my feet, I ain't going in. Now the Crystal River area isn't bad...clear springs and all, but the water is like ice...could handle it back as a teenager, now I won't even dip in a toe . BTW it's 58 degrees right now just after 9 am. I'm looking forward to flying in the cooler weather...haven't had a chance to fly since Wednesday, but hopefully the beginning of the week it will still be cool.
Bev

Ken,

O'K. you definitely have way too much fun at work.....can Marc Vigod give me a moderator job???
If you can put tires on that puppy I could use it on I-95...keep the crew on board and we can use the HOV (high occupancy vehicle...why can't they just say CAR POOL) lane!!! ...off road michelins, and we can retrieve planes from the field AND eradicate snakes!!!
Bev

"CAR POOL" takes a bigger sign than "HOV" does and they pay for those by the square foot. Makes a difference when you figure out how many they have to make. Besides, they probably can't spell "CAR POOL".

Miles,
Your posting exceeds my ability But hey, pretty cool 540 Edge huh? First it was Eddie's, then Andrew's, then Fernando's, then Danny's and was given to me about a month ago. She's sitting under the staircase in the livingroom at the moment...I have GOT to figure out where I'm going to store all this stuff!!! Either that or put Christmas lights on the planes and call them holiday decorations
I have tackled greased in landings flying left pattern, and can even fly right pattern, although the right approach landings make me nervous...the trees off to the east on "base" bother me, and I'm still having to "tell" myself to give it left or right as I land from that direction.
I'm comfortable doing rolls and forward and backward loops with the small electrics that Jimmy, Eddie and Brad have let me fly. They're a blast...and this past week I even "hung one from the prop" ...first time trying that...it was great!!!!
Bev
