Im sure theres a post here SOMEwhere about this but it takes too long to look SO

I have a brand new Eflite 400 brushless inrunner sitting in my desk and I want to know what else I need to add this to my CP. Such as gyro, ESC, etc. If it were a plane Id have no prob but since Im new to Helis....well...me smart like tractor

You'll need an ESC for it, and the easiest way to do it that I know of would be by using a little board that takes the voltage going out of the main motor ESC and makes a servo signal based on it. Basically you plu it in where the main motor would go, then you plug the ESC into that... I don't remember who sells them...

Yeah, you can do it using the Brush2Less converter:

http://www.helihobby.com/html/ESKY1.html

In order to keep your stock 4 in 1, you would need the Brush2Less, and a brushless ESC for the main motor.

If you want to go brushless on the tail, I'm not sure how people are doing that, but I know that they are. You probably would just need another ESC and another Brush2Less for the tail, but I'm not sure...

Would you use the same type of ESC as used in a plane?? I have a brushless ESC also. An 18amp ThunderBird from Castle but Im not sure if this would be compatable with the 4 in 1. I love the brushless setup in my planes and would like to do it to the heli also but I dont want to cause any negative effects with 4 in 1. If anyone can tell me if this this motor and ESC will work with the CP without having to add anything else it would be a big help.

It should work. It doesn't have to be compatible with the 4 in 1 in any way. It would not be connected to the 4 in 1, it would be connected to the Brush2Less.

The Brush2Less takes the (brushed) motor output coming from the ESC in the 4 in 1, and 'converts' it to a servo output signal. This servo output signal is then sent to your (brushless) ESC, which in turn then powers the brushless motor.

Therefore, when your ESC is connected to the Brush2Less, think of it as if it's just plugged into the throttle channel on a normal RX. It will work just like that.

Yeah, I haven't searched for reviews or anything. I ran accross this a couple of weeks ago online, and read about how it works. I thought it was interesting, but I don't want to go brushless for a while (if at all) on this heli. I may do it later sometime, but not now. It has plenty of power for my novice skills.

Still, the Brush2Less is pretty cool, I think... If it works and is reliable, that is...

now ive asked before - but is there any need for this brush2less thingy?
if you solder a male servo connector onto channel3 cant you just plug your
ESC straight into the 4in1 - after all if you open the 4in1 and split it into two
you get one board thats the gyro/esc and the other thats a tiny 6 channel receiver.

That would probably work too... I'm not sure. But if you rip out the gyro and esc, then you would need another esc for the tail, and another gyro, of course.

dont rip i out - just solder on the other side of the board so that
all the tail stuff/battery still plugs in
