I finished the painting on the trailer yesterday and let them sit over night to dry. First thing this morning, I grabbed the camera but none of the pictures captured the color changing effects since it wasn''t "bright" enough. I will have to wait until it is all put together and then I can bring it outside in the sun light to try again.

To describe it, it looks dark - almost black - from a distance. The dominant colors that flip are purple and a dark pine green. The gold & orange are almost absent unless the light hits it just right and even then it is very hard to see, so it is one of those "double take" colors that will play tricks on your mind If I ever go with color changing paint again, I will make sure that it is only 2 tone (2, 3 & 4 tone cost the same ) and have the colors go from one extreme to the other (gold to red / gold to green).

The paint was still a bit tacky, so right now I have the doors & windows open (mainly to air out the house ) and will end up moving the panels so they are able to sit undisturbed for a couple of days to ensure they are totally dry before handling them again.

Since I have limited room and this project is a big one, I think it is best to finish the trailer before moving on to the tractor. I found it hard enough to juggle instructions and parts from the trailer & motorized legs

Parts are starting to arrive for the semi

I got a shift gate off of ebay & LB sent me the parts needed for the radio mod.

What's the pricing for the shift gate and parts for the radio mod?

I got some questions on painting. I am thinking of using automotive spray cans for my paint job. Is it safe on the plastic? I saw some paint job where it is really shining like the real thing, how do they do that? Can just apply those car polish thingy and polish it till it shines?

Ya, it will be fine. I just went down to the local autoparts store and picked out some auto spray paint.

What will you be using to buff it to shine?

Any auto polish works, like Turtle Wax, etc.

I got the shift gate off of ebay for $11 (shipping included) and the parts for the radio mod shouldn't be more than $5 or so (I got mine from LB).

The paint has been bothering me so I emailed Spaz Stix.

What they ended up saying is that "the color change paint merged with the black paint" (black being the backing paint) & "To prevent this in the future, it’s better to allow more dry time between coats and not to spray the coats on too heavily. Because both paints are lacquer, if sprayed on too heavily, the color change paint will merge into the black and cause the effect that you are describing below."

I guess 2 days of letting the black dry and then an hour in between each light coat wasn't enough even though the instructions say 20 minutes dry time

What I am going to do now is spray the truck body black tomorrow and then Sunday spray the color change paint (just like I did last weekend with the trailer) and hope that I the paint matches because if not I will be chasing my tail just to get it close.

Sounded good on paper

I wish I knew you were using Spaztix, it's such a bad paint. I would have told you to stay away. I had really bad results from it and they never wanted to fix it. It flakes right off too.

Hopefully it won't flake off since the semi will be "slow road" useage only.

I received an email from Spaz Stix: I'm sure you will get the same results for your trailer if you paint it the same way that you painted with other parts as long as you paint it the same way you painted the other parts.[

I can only hope that everything matches

I just sent off a bunch of pictures to Spaz Stix because the emails started going back and forth this morning about the paint problems, so out of respect to them making an effort to resolve the issue I will not post them at the moment.

If it gets resolved in my favor, then I will start over again and take new pictures. If not, then I will post what was sent to them.

So the trailer doesn't match?

I didn't do the body yet - no time today for paint

I am afraid what will happen is the body will end up being 4 colors (gold being the dominate color) and I will have to start over with the trailer since it is only 2 colors (only the dark ones are showing).

Right now Spaz Stix has been ignoring my emails since I sent them the pictures of how the paint didn't turn out even though I followed the instructions, so I will wait until Monday evening / Tuesday morning to post pictures.
