I had a G2 in the past and it was like flying in a fish bowel.
If I was flying three mistakes high I could not see the ground for a referance. And it looked like I was in a doam looking up most of the time.
I would like to know if this new AFPD sim is a better system to pracitice 3D stuff with and look like a flying field. And also be able to see the ground and the plane at the same time if the plane is 20 scale feet off the deck.
Of is it better to get a couple of foam planes and go to the field and pracitce?

Thanks

AFPD is a ton better than G2! Now for the question of "can I see the plane and ground at the same time while at 20 ft. altitude?".... that all depends.... 20' right over your head or 20' while 50' out from you?

Of course no simulator with only one screen is going to give you the peripheral field of view that you have while flying in real life. But I do say AFPD is worth having. Besides, why fly 3 mistakes high when you have unlimited supply of (simulated) airplanes???

Gary, Thanks for the reply to me questions. I should have said 20 feet up and 50 feet in front of me.
I like your idea of having an unlimited supply of planes to work with.
I have been flying pattern and sport planes for 30 years off and on but no 3D stuff until I built a SU-29. Thanks

No problem. I've always thought that the sims biggest downside was the field of view. Not much can be done about that though until they offer compatibility with multiple monitors.

Good luck with your 3D learning!

I just want to add to what Gary already has said, I too fly AFPD and have found it to be a real help in improving my flying. AFPD does have an adjustable field of view allowing you to have a little more periferal vision, but I'm with Gary on this being the downside of simulators.

Gary,
I have the H9 Twist with an ST G51 and 12-4 fun fly prop, in the hands of our club 3D Guru it's awsome, in my hands, wellll lets I need a bit of practice
Regards to all,
Pete

Pete, that's exactly the setup on my Twist! I haven't flown it in almost a year though. I knocked the gear off (for the 3rd time) while doing a nice harrier landing in grass.... haven't taken time to re-mount them yet. I also had the rudder hinges come loose too.... need to replace those also.

I maidened my Twist back in May of 2004

Three times, wow I must be doing something right I've only managed to do it once, so far
I got the 3D bug reading Ed Moormans review of the Twist in RC Report, and needed something to hang the old G51 on
May all your landings be wheels down and canopy up
Pete
