I have a Du-Bro F/P 491 fuel pump and it needs some attention after many years of service and I want to recondition it.
The trouble is I can't figure out how the body comes apart. Has anyone ever taken one of these to pieces. It is about 16 years old and made of stainless steel and no longer available.

I wish I had some real information for you, but I had one of those things and it was fantastic!!! There is apparently an internal seal of some sort that deteriorates over time, and I looked at that thing seemingly forever and never figured out how to take it apart without ruining it.

Boy I wish they still made those....

I'm assuming you are refering to the all metal pump where where you twisted the fuel line fitting to switch from fill to defill?? I loved mine but it failed after 1 season due to 10% nitro glow fuel eating thru the cylinder wall , Dubro replaced it and that one did the same thing, the next thing I knew they were discontinued. What kind of fuel are you using? A friend of mine has used one about forever, but he uses it for smoke oil, should last forever
Sadly I think they were not designed to come apart. I think you will see that if you try pumping with the unit lifted up high enough in the jug you may see that the leaking is actually thru the wall of the cylinder, if thats the case wellll, that's all folks
I agree with both of you guys that it was a great pump, I would have been willing to pay more for one if they could have solved the problem with glow fuel, I think the problem was the cylinder body was actually plated brass, but about all I know about metalurgy is how to spell it

In all honesty, I believe that these pumps were on the whole, very problematic for people and this lead to their early discontinuation.

Mine pumped it's butt off for over 10yrs before it finally went kaput, so I wound up with a really good impression of it. I never noted any corrosion problems however.

Back to the old 6-shooter...

Back to the old 6-shooter...

Now talk about "tried and true"
currently I'm using a Slimline "Boxer" fuel pump, brings the same pump technology as the 6 Shooter to electric pumps, no siphon problems, but they cost a bit more than most pumps.
