I found a link to this SPAD site today:

http://henrylx.rchomepage.com/photo.htm

I noticed very quickly the pictures of the foam MIG plane. I remember this plane vividly from my days 20 years ago in the army when this plane was used for target practice on everything from a small rifle up on the larger anit-aircraft weapons. I remember them being EXTREMELY difficult to bring down.

I've always wondered if it was possible to acquire one of these planes, so I was surprised to see it on this site. I was going to ask the owner of the site how he got it, but there are no links to do so.

Does anyone have a clue on where one of these might be available, or who the owner of the web site is?

I'm going to attempt to attach a picture of the plane as well....

They used to be up on Ebay from time to time. Government buys em by the lot and as time and technology changes, gets rid of the old stock. The last ones I saw up there had K+B engines but this one appears to have a SuperTigre on it. Someonel somewhere has the job of producing these models. And here I sit laserin print on paper. One of these days I'm gonna meet up with my Career Counciler, one of these days....

A while back I was doing some internet research on the Mig drone and found the company that originally had the gov't contract to make these puppies (can't remember it, of course) but I seem to recall the company was either sold or closed. I have to believe that the army has guys shooting at something that would interest us, I just have to figure out how to get my hands on some.

Never thought of ebay - I'll give that a try. Hey, if someone can buy a kidney from them I should be able to buy a drone!

The company that used to produce these was Carl Goldberg Models in Chicago,Illinois. They were bought out a few years back by Lanier RC.The plane is based on the swing wing Russian Mig-23 "Flogger".It was the latest high tech cold war threat of the day when Goldberg was pumping these foamies out for the US defense department under contract.I'd love to find out whether Lanier got the foam injection moulds for this model when they acquired Goldberg. This was one ARF that was definitely ahead of its day!

Thanks for the info, Turbo.

I've done more searching in RCU and other places and it looks like I missed the boat by about 2 years. There was a real flurry of activity with people buying and selling these babies and making all kinds of nice mods. The only thing I've been able to find for sale is one that is overpriced (IMO) and one that is too beat up for me.

I'll keep up the quest and report back if I find anything.

Wow, its a bit funny I ended up seeing this post wandering in the forums because one of my flying buddies has one of these laying around in his living room. It has not been assembled or anything, and I'm pretty sure he is looking to sell it. He is actually one of the mods here: send a email/PM to EXCAP232, and you might be able to acquire his. I have checked it out many times during our group weekend building sessions, and it is in great condition.

We have several of these flying in our club.

Carl Goldberg built the version with the wood motor mount, for an upright mount. R.s. technologies built the other version, with the aluminum side mounted motor. Both used K & B Motors.

I have one with a Tower .75 on the nose, others fly them with St .90s. They are a blast. We have tail dragger and trycycle landing gears. THey are easily hand launched also. They fly like trainers.

I made several inqueries to pick one or tow of these up, but was always hitting a dead end. If anyoe know someone has a LEAST a good shape (preferably like new), I'm a motivated buyer and won't waste anyone's time.

Thanks very much for the response, I really appreciate it. I'm going to decline on this offer because I'm really hoping to get one that hasn't flown yet or been assembled because I was planning on some fairly extensive mods that would be tough to do after the fact. Thanks again though.

I know I'm not the only one looking for one of these Mig's. I've read info speculating that Goldberg took over the business...but regardless it's pretty obvious NO ONE has been building them in at least a decade. I'd love to find out who has the mold tooling for this plane.

Smooth
