Hey James... How about some details on your flying disk? And how about posting it in a new thread, since this one is getting huge!!

Thanks!

First flown with OS 40FP, and later added a Mousse Can Pipe. Then an OS 46LA w/MCP, and finally a Thunder Tiger 42GP w/MCP which was and still is my favorite engine for these type of planes.

Although no longer considered to be WILD by today's standards, the Flying Machine is still one of my favorite RC planes. Originally powered by a K&B 6.5cc engine, later with a piped OS 40FSR, and finally an OS 46VF. I LOVED this plane....may it Rest In Pieces.

Stickit's are fantastic flyers!
Perfect for low-level hovering or low level aerobatics.
I LOVE this plane!!!

See the plane hovering over on the left?
That's the very same Stickit....but a few years later.

Want to know why it looks like that now?
Go here to find out the rest of the story....

Dave's right about the Stickit. If there is a better " in your face " plane made, I don't know what it is. I seldom fly mine about 10 ft. off the ground or more than 100 ft. away. Perfect machine for benchtop touch and goes, pit hovering, etc.
( Not that I do those things ! ) I think some of the profiles and a couple others are maybe a shade better in some areas... like tumbles, spins, K.E. flight... I'll give them their credit too... but man I have never had as much fun flying anything as I have the Stickit. Everything is slow and low.
Like 10 mph or less, often much less. Gives even me a chance to stay ahead of the plane. One maneuver I was never good at was rolling circles. I'd always dumb thumb it in the middle somewhere. Always. The Stickit will fly slow enough without stalling that a rolling circle is easy now. my personal fun meter is pegged. The only other plane I ever had that came close was a coroplast delta I built a few years ago... but thats another story.. actually another thread... check out disc plane thread.

I"m just about finished building a Flying Machine. I have mounted a Rossi 45 on it and will prop it for speed since I have a hangar of funfly planes. I'll use this plane as a fast bang around plane.
I hear the Flying Machine is a fast plane? I brought the plane to the club meeting when I had it up in bones and someone in the meeting said they had a video of the plane flying. I borrowed the viedeo and watched the plane in action. apparently the plane was designed to help fund a group of guys who would go around the country to put on RC shows. back then they were flying ducted fans by Byron. They would call them selves the Cloud Dancers. The plans are dated 1983. Some of the older guys might know more about that.

jmulder,

The fiberglass boom lays into a slot cut into the plywood engine pod, which all gets sandwiched between the wing halves. Simple and easy!

If you have built any planes at all, then building a Stickit won't be a problem. In fact, it would make a perfect first time scratch build.

If you don't want to scratch build a Stickit type plane, Air Flair makes and sells kits of the Stickit V, the Smith Super Special, and the Diamond Tea. Here is their URL:
http://www.airflair.com/

If you've never had one of these Competition Fun Fly planes before, you have no idea what you've been missing out on!

bugsiegel,
You heard right....the Flying Machine can go very fast. Of course it's not much bigger than a 25 size plane....so with a piped 46 you would expect it to be fast. But it also can land going very slow.

The airshow team you're thinking of was the Cloud Dancers from Kissimee (sp?) Florida. The Flying Machine's airshow pilot was Don Muddiman. I first saw Don's Flying Machine routine at one of Byron's Fun Flys back in the 80's. Right then and there I KNEW I had to have one of those planes for myself! I flew it for many years and it's definitely one of my all time favorite RC planes!

If you want lots more info and details about the Flying Machine, check out my Flying Machine web page here:

I second Dave's comments about the Stickit. I have a Stickit V too. I spend hours flying these Fun Fly planes and not burning much gas flying them. Here is a cheeper version of the Stickit. http://www.diamonddustrc.com/
Look at the Diamond Unlimited. My next project.
