They can aslong as they're rated for the discharge. Most LIPO's are safe to be discharged at temps up to 120F (~50C) which is quite hot. You can go even higher than that of course (140F being the max for safe operation) but you short the batteries life in doing so. The packs he's running should be more than fine, though, under such high current draw situations, i'm sure they won't last as long as if you treated the packs kindly .
