Isn't the MLST independant suspension? You's want to lock up the suspension if so, and devise a way to suspend it like a solid axle truck. I might be talking out of my butt, though, I don't know if an MLST is indy or solid...

Do you already have the MLST or are you looking to make a small crawler out of anything?

To keep it simple, install the smallest pinion and largest spur gear you can get. For oil, go as light as possible and install the weakest springs you can get. If you can, lock the front and rear diffs. If there is a center diff or transmission, lock it so it can't slip.

Im not sure what the diffs are like on the MLST but in one of my E-Maxx's I use blackmoly grease in my diffs, it does not lock them up but it slow the diff action down and improves my climbing abilitys 10 fold. I would think it should help in your case.
