I am currently in the process of upgrading the electrics in my 36. I already have ready to go in, 4 x HS56 Servos and a GY240 Gyro. I’m looking at a Futaba 6exh and R146 receiver. However I am not quite ready to go brushless just yet but obviously I will need a separate speed controller for the brushed motor if I go with a new receiver. I have a spare ICS-400(Link) speed controller, rated at 15amps which is from a foamy plane. Would I be able to use this speed controller with the standard motor?

ok, get a spektrum DX6, EVERYONE loves them (including me, I've used it) they've got like what, a 1000+ ft range (for "parkflying" and it's nearly impossible to lose signal, and, you don't suffer from interferrance.

Brushless motors, align 420LF and a 35A align speed control, NO SUBSTITUTES! (for the motor, you can always get a more expensive speed control) I really suggest against using the stock motor.

the servos'll be fine as well...

so looks like you're set

PS: remember that you can use a BL ESC to power the Rx... besides, the 36 needs the extra power from the BL motor!

Spektrum use for model aircraft is not legal here in the UK at the moment so the DX6 will have to wait. Im going to give this speed controller a try becasue it was fine with the 400 motor in my plane and powering the 4 servos. Im currently looking at brushless motors but havent taken the plunge yet. What pinion would you recommend with the align 420lf?

I'd suggest a 11T pinnion with the higher KV of the 430L, I use a 13 with my 420LF currently.

Also, though the 400 motor may work on the plane, a heli puts a TREMENDOUS amount of strain on the motor and speed controller, so, you'd need a 25A one at least!

PS: the 420/430 will fit directly into the frame, no mods (refreshing to say the least) and easy as anything, you will have to unscrew some sections of the frame to stick it in, but not a problem.

Thanks for the advice. Lol, I was only going to upgrade the servos and now ive replaced every stock piece of electronics. I might as well get my pay cheque paid straight to the model shop! Man I love this hobby,

James

Just one more question. Do the standard Align pinions fit the 430L and are they suitable for using in the 36? Link

yup, those're the ones I got! they're meant for the TRex gears, which, the toothing is the EXACT SAME as with the 36, so, they mesh perfectly. (I've even patched parts of a TRex gear into my 36 gear and it still worked!)

Align pinions and Walkera pinions are 0.5 modulus.
