Rezagh,
I have just got a 73" Yak and I put a YS 140 Sport on it, because I wanted to try a four stroke. Can you give me some tips on this engine. It is my first four-stroke and I cant get it running correctly. I'm having trouble with the idle mostly. The instructions say it should idle at 2000RPMs and that it will suck fuel at that point instead of being fuel injected. I can't get it to idle that slow reliably. Finally got mad and put it away for the night. I'm going to try again tomorrow after sleeping on it, but any advice on the engine (tuning or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated, this engine is a whole different animal to me. I'm used to two stroke glow engines.
Also, what about putting after-run oil in? I've always did it on my 2 strokes because I ruined a O.S. .91FX by not doing it and it stuck the ring and rusted the bearings and crank. Ever since then, I put PLENTY of oil in my engines. But the sheet on this thing says you don't even have to run it out of fuel at the end of the day if you're going to be flying every day or once a week. Then in the off season just run it out of fuel and store inverted??? No after-run oil in four-strokes???
Help me man!!!
Thanks

GB

Hi GB,

As far as oil goes, you shouldn't put after run oil on the four stroke engines. I have a friend who bought one of these a year ago and it never ran right, right out of the box! He sent it in and they did some fix, returned it and same problem! But I have also seen many good ones running at the field. To tell you the truth, I can't help you on this, I'm sorry. I have never had a 4- stroke engine. I went straight to DA50 on 50 size plane. I could answer just about any questions on DA 50 and 100 but not 4-stroke glow. I would like to ask the gentlemen on our forum who have had experience with this engine to comment here and help GB out. Again sorry that I couldn't help you out.

Thank you,
Reza Gh.

Thanks anyway Rezagh, I know that QQ has this engine on his 73" Yak so I thought I would ask here. I'll look in a few other places too!
BTW, It's a 140 FZ not a 140 sport, don't know if that makes any difference, but if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.
Thanks!,

GB

unless u have changed the needle\regulator settings radically, ( reg shud b flush with the body , and highspeed needle max 2 turns out ) the prob may lie in the fuel ur using. ys motors r very picky about the fuel , ull have to use min20% nitro and full synthetic oil . try a fresh mix of fuel and change of glowplug, and yes no afterrun oil but u have to run the motor dry after flying. stick with it cause once u get a ys running ull c why u pay more for a ys.

Yoga,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm running a brand new gallon of YS 20/20. It's full synthetic. The first night I tried to crank it I used dad's fuel which is 10/16. So I thought the fuel would fix the problem but no such luck. I even took the engine off the plane, Mounted it upright on my testbench and tried to get everything set but it still dosen't run right. If you leave the glow ignitor on it it runs pretty good. But even at half throttle if you pull it off the engine dies immeadiatly . By looking down into the carb while running, fuel is spitting everywhere. It LOOKS like it's getting WAAAY too much fuel but I don't know. All needles (and regulator) are set at factory settings. I'm getting really frustrated!!! Will go to LHS tomorrow and get some new glow plugs to try.

anything else? anybody???

GB

this is typical of ys (the prob ) looks like u have a malfunction in the reg sealing pip.its a small tapered plunger which rests under the diaphram that is inside the reg. try dismantling and cleaning\blowing and assemble it back, if it dosent solve ur prob dont experiment just send it over to service at ys. the same prob happ to me when i first used a ys and impatiently didnt use filters in the lines (very imp) replaced the plunger and havent touched the motor since, of course now i use the best inline filters.
