Just flew mine for the first time today. Awesome! This plane is rock solid and needed very little trim adjustments. Excellent IMAC style aerobatics on low rates. I felt like 3d could be better with the CG back from where it was. She was a 1/4" fwd of center spar for the first flight. That felt very conservative. Vertical with the DA-100 and Vess 27B is incredible and also makes it faster than I expected. So glad I opted for the 100 rather than the 85. It seemed as though there wasn't much of a mid-range though. This made for some jerky hovering. May just need to break in though.

Here's my setup:
DA-100 (Vess 27B)
DB 5" Ultimate spinner
KS cans/headers
5955's all around except throttle and choke
2 R607FS rx's
Duralite RRS
Power Box SC-12
2 2s2p 4300mah lions
1 TBM 2400mah lion on ignition

Good work, congrats.

Walbro carbs are not linear in the throttle. There will be places where one degree of rotation gets you a slight power increase, and others where one degree gets you 3 or 4 times that amount. You will probably need a throttle curve to correct that.

Yeah that's what I figured... I set up one for my second flight and it seemed a little smoother. It just needs a little tweaking. I'm too focused on eating today though....

My wife give me one of these for Christmas. Used the help of my good friends Steve and Ron to help her make the selection.

I got the plane...well at least I got the wings. Box number one still hasn't showed up yet. Shipped Greyhound on Dec 10. I called Greghound and they said with the holidays and busy schedule it's probably just late. But on the other hand...they really can't tell me a thing about it. They just don't know. Boy!!!!!! They make UPS look great.

Anyways...I'm thrilled about this plane. This is my second Wild Hare. First is Edge V2 50cc.

The wings are beautiful. She also got me a JR8711 servo for the rudder and 6 HS5955 servos for the wings and elevators. Question...is it required to use two servos on the ailerons if I'm using the HS5955? She also got me a DA 100 and the ignition battery and radio battery and mufflers. Another question...what cannisters would I use, or pipes, to get the noise level down to a reasonable level? Our club likes things quiet.

I have a G3 14 channel Futaba receiver to use. Should be a great combo. I love the pocket hinges...Great design and super simple. Already hinged and no gap sealing needs to be done. Are the elevators hinged the same way?

I love the design of this airplane. Looks like a Yak enough to fly good yet looks enough different to really stand out at our field. And quality of the wings looks 2nd to none. It's beautiful.

Only problem...I'm ready to start building tonight...and no fuselage. Oh well...maybe it will be here tomorrow.

Any special tips to make the build go better or make the plane fly better?

Anyways...look forward to reading all this thread and getting this plane built and flown by early February...weather permitting. Last night we got about 14-16" of snow.

Well...Merry Christmas to all of you fellow RCers out there. May 2008 be a great year for all.

Thanks
Barry

Wow Barry,

I need a wife like yours!!!! ...(well, I guess I should clarify - I need a wife in general). Did you get her some of that shiney stuff for Christmas to pay her back? Good luck on the build...seems like you should have about everything you need!

Barry you are a lucky guy...

I would use two servos for the ailerons. Torque isn't the issue. One servo just focuses too much stress in one spot. Two distributes the load more evenly and will result in a longer lasting plane/servos.
All control surfaces are hinged the same.
With the DA-100 I split the difference with the right thrust recommended in the instructions. This made for a sweet flying airplane.
The KS cans/headers that Tom keeps in stock went right in without any trouble.

Good luck and enjoy!

I'm gonna hold ya to that>>>>>The video that I saw (on Wild Hare website) does indeed look like it flys great. I can't wait to try it.

Thanks

somethnextra...

On the DA...does it require standoffs? Mine didn't come with any. I read somewhere the firewall has zero RH thrust. You put is a couple degrees? The cans and headers you got from Tom...are they pretty quiet? My DA 85 on cannister isn't really that quiet.

I think I'll go with 2 servos per aileron. The wing is prebuilt for that, just the inside slot isn't cut out for it yet.

Thanks
Barry

Barry,
You will need standoffs. Just go to Lowe's or HD and get a 1" oak dowel. I went to an auto shop and put it on a lathe to drill out the center. Simple. Cheap. Tough.

The firewall is built straight. I just offset the engine a hair. I can't remember what the exact measurements are but they're in the instructions (hope they're not still on the greyhound).

I don't really have anything to compare the sound to. Definitely quieter than stock mufflers but as far as other cans/mufflers go, I'm not very experienced with different exhaust setups.

Sadly, my instructions, along with box 1, (most of the airplane) is still on Greyhound. I have high hopes they will show up tomorrow or Thursday.

I'm guessing the stand off length would be similar to a Yak (I have some experience with Yaks) Maybe put the prop about 1 1/2" out from the cowl for improved efficiency?

I am anxious. Can you tell? Although I don't know why...14" on snow on the ground. Maybe February. But friends Ron and Steve are actually trying to get me to put skiis on a plane and fly in the snow!?!?!?

Thanks
Barry

If you don't want to use off set on the firewall you can always mix in rudder with throttle.

I put about 2.5 degrees of right on mine with 1degree of down (for IMAC).

With Cans on a 3W106 and rudder servos in the tail I've noticed that it is quite nose heavy.

I moved my main batteries behind the canopy and added about 1.5oz of lead to the tail and its just about right now.

I like my IMAC planes very nuetral (you may like it different).

I've found that it looks to need only a slight amount of differential and about 10% on the downline mix. I was just about to work in the knife edge mix when my JR10X mix switch took a crap. The radio no longer recognizes it moving. Instead of moving my mixes to say gear.....I'm sending it in for repeairs (darn thing only lasted 7yrs before breaking) just in case its a circuit board issue and not just a bad pot switch. Better safe when its $3k+ in the air! I've programmed my model into a friends 10X with the data share and everyything worked fine so I'll still be able to fly....when he comes to the field.

So far the plane is cruising through the Sportsman sequence quite well. In the last 2 weeks I've got quite a few flights on it (about 3gallons). Still tweaking the engine slightly on the low end but the high is ripping the plane around! It lands with the slightess of ease, nice and soft. Spins and Snaps are stopping on the points and slow rolls look very good. I've had some trouble recently with the haze/clouds/background seeing the bottom of the plane clearly (remember this is IMAC and you need to be prefectly wings level or lose points). I'm going to add some vinyl to the bottom tomorrow to rectify this and try to keep the scheme intake.

My only complaint would be the gear. They do flex a little and I worry about a hard desert landing....but then I worry about that with any of my planes so it may not be all fair.

I got box #1 today. It came in (late) unscatched in any way. Perfet! Wow...what a relief. I was starting to get a bit worried. Everything looks great. And my wife really out did herself. Came with spinner, prop, wheels, servo arms,
