Barry,
I wouldn't shorten the standoffs. I agree you need the prop out there as far as you can get it. I have a DA100 on standard pipes on my Sukhoi and use 2 1/2 inch standoffs with no balance problems at all. I am using two 2800 MAH LiIon reciever batteries which are probably around the same weight as the A123's. These are mounted about 3 inches in front of the single 5955 rudder servo and that makes my CG just a touch in front of neutral. (Slight nose down when on an inverted 45 degree upline). I can easily move these batteries back to get a tail heavy flight setup.
As far as thrust goes, I agree with Pat Roy. Mount it 3/16 to the left and go fly. YOu will most likely find it near perfect or at least not be able to tell if it needs anything because the big old smile on your face will distort your vision!!!!! After a whole bunch of flights I put in about 1 degee right thrust and maybe 1/2 degree down thrust on mine but I am not sure I can tell a whole lot of difference as I still have that smile going every time I fly the plane.

These planes must have different weighing tail feathers. I have a 115 in mine (very light) and I had to place both fromeco 4800's at the back of the hatch for balance.
One thing to remember (according to Que Que) you "should" have the prop around 1" away from the cowl on these big round beasts for best efficiency. More is better to a point.

Hi Barry
I agree with Sailing. I have a DA100 in my Sukhoi mounted with the prop about 1 1/4 in. in front of the cowl.
One receiver pack is mounted directly behind the wing tube , the other one just forward of the former the cowl is mounted on. No problems with CG on this model. In fact, I may try moving the rear receiver pack farther forward.
45 minutes of flight time today. Its an awesome airplane!
I also have about 1 degree right thrust and less than I degree down.
If your using metal standoffs (which I don't recommend) be sure to harden the firewall with CA. It is too soft and the metal standoffs crushed the firewall under vibration and had to be replaced with a wooden block.

I'm in the finishing stages of my new airplane. Looks like I'm gonna be done waYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before the weather is. Right now our lows are in the -5 --15 area. Makes me wonder why I live here.

Anyways, couple of questions....On the DA100 users how do you hook up the choke to a servo? Doesn't seem like it is very easy to do this. Pictures? Also, on the DA100 users, rcacro and sailing1 and rctom, are you mounting the rudder servo in the fuse with a pull/pull or under the elevator stab with a push/pull? I want to go with the fuse mounted pull/pull but am a bit worried about CG. The DA seems mighty heavy and just the spinner alone weighs 1/2lb.

I have the two rudder servos mounted in the fuse at the wing tailing edge and use pull/pull connections to the rudder.
In the IMAC contest this weekend I flew in Intermediate class and was in contention all weekend for one of the top 3 places until the last flight. Turns out some judges now want less autorotation and more aileron roll in snap rolls. Just got back from the field where I was practicing fast aileron rolls with a little tail wobble!!
Great flying airplane.

I always use a pull-pull. Get a lighter spinner, 8 ounces seems awfully heavy.

Get the choke arm that Tom sells. It's $10 and really easy to attach. Use the pull-pull. What spinner do you have?

www.espritmodels.com for a fiberglass or carbon spinner that weighs almost nothing. Pete's also makes a carbon spinner but costs more. A wood prop is usually lighter than a carbon one, so that's another item to consider.

The spinner's weight is very important because it is farthest from the CG and has the most effect on balance.

Like Pat Roy has mentioned the spinners from Esprit are a good product. I am using a Fiberglass 4 1/2 inch spinner which is about an once lighter than a carbon one I have in the same size. They come in white and are really easy to paint. I painted mine Cub Yellow and it matches the plane really well. I am just using one Hitec 5955 for the pull-pull. That is probably marginal for most people but has worked OK for me so far. I just mounted the choke servo next to the throttle servo, both are mounted to the bottom of the engine box and it didn't take anything special to set up. With the DA 100 on stock pipes I have had no ballance problems at all. The ignition battery is a 2800 NiMh mounted just in front of the tank and the two 2800 NiMh flight packs are mounted about 3 inches in front of the rudder servo which is mounted in the back position. A actually had to move my flight packs forward to keep from being tail heavy.

I just don't think you will have a balance problem unless you put the heaviest spinner and prop you can find on the plane.

I can get some pics if you want as soon as it warms up a bit. Right now it just north of freezing in my garage.

Hey Barry I am about 4 Hours South of you in Elko Nevada. I built a Sukhoi and put a 3w 106 in it. I used the esprit fiberglass spinner painted monokote yellow and it works great. I did not have any balance issues. I put a single 8711 servo in the tail with a push pull setup. I also only used a single 5955 on each aileron and mt total weight came out at 25.5 pounds. With this setup I can fly any type of 3D which I am capable of and more. I hooked the choke up to a servo and mounted it behind the wing tube, then ran a pushrod. I just bought a steering arm for a tricycle gear and used that, but the ones Tom sells look pretty good. Maybe when the weather warms up we could meet in Twin and do some flying.

Yeah, I used to live in Twin Falls. I know where Elko is. I've been there a couple of times for work. I would love to meet in Twin and do some flying. I'm not aware of where their field is but I'm sure we could find it. I especially interested this year because they will have "flyable" weather a month or more sooner than here in the high air. Maybe the end of February would be about right. Let's stay in touch. I'd love to meet ya and fly for a few hours.

I have a lever you can use to replace the one on your carb, you can rotate it to any position. $10
