See if you can move the flight battery aft a little rather than add weight. 27 lbs is fine but no need for more unless you have to. Good to hear you're having a good time with her.

I flew another four flights this evening. I moved the ignition battery back 9 inches. This helped with my CG balance a lot. Nearly perfect now but I still feel the CG has to come aft a little bit more. Maybe I'll move one of the other batteries back also.
Anyways, I did a little mixing for "harrier" and "KE" and also a higher speed idle (to help with those dreaded deadsticks) and gave everything the "once over" after the maiden flights.

The DA 100 is running fabulous right now. Just a little "burble" right at the transition, annoying, but I think I can tune it out as the engine breaks in a bit. I'm getting nearly 39 lbs thrust and spinning the 26x10 about 6600 RPM. So far I really like the engine. Dead reliable also. Not even close to a deadstick yet.

My KE now are almost perfect with just the slightest hint of coupling to the wheels. Harriers are "rock free" with a spoileron mix in the picture. Does a great "down elevator". Hover is easier with the CG back just a bit. Rolling circles are really outstanding with this airplane. What a joy. Also the size of this baby draws attention at our club.

I added a bit more elevator throw also which gave my waterfalls a bit more "snap".

Inverted flat spins are wayyyyyyyyyyy cool. They will get perfectly flat and if you pick up the throttle a bit they almost stop decending. At least it's falling very slowly. Very neat looking and my favorite stunt of all. I just love this airplane. 11 flights total now. Not that many and it feels like an old friend. Super easy to fly and land. Just a great air ship.

Tom....I gotta thank you for giving us this airplane. What a treat.

thanks
Barry

Almost forgot....I've got a 14MZ radio coming. It should be here by Monday. My hope with this new radio is to fly my WH Edge and WH Sukhoi at the same time. I'm told if you take off two abreast, it's really not that bad. Both planes do the same maneuvers and you fly for a few minutes and land at the same time. No problems.

Anyways the 14MZ is supposed to be quite a radio. I'm gonna be selling my 12Z and flying mostly with the 14. My programming should even transfer over with the storage card it comes with. Cool.

Now I gotta get another plane to have on the table to occupy my evenings and bad weather days. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Barry

Sorry for all the posts...I'm just excited tonight. I really did have a great time flying the Sukhoi.

Tom...do you have any wing bags for this plane?

Also, just wanted to mention the new JR servo on the rudder (my first JR) has tremendous torque. This plane will do a very nice powerful KE loop. I'm sure I'm not getting any blow back on the rudder. (and that rudder is huge) I do my high alpha KE on medium rates and the rudder just holds so nice. Very impressed.
Thanks
Barry

If you weren't excited you would have the wrong plane for you. Keep up the good work and make those smiles stretch from ear to ear[)] It just isn't worth it otherwise

After seeing that Big Sukhoi, I might have to try one of those 8711's on my Extra and take out the two 5955's to save a little weight. That is a BIG plane. Congrats Barry!!

Flew with Steve today. I flew 5 flights. Great fun. I'm really falling in love with this plane. I've got 16 flights now. I've done a couple of mixes that has improved KE and Harrier but mostly I've just left it alone and flew it. I've got a slight hesitation between low/high in the transition area. I'm thinking that's just a new engine and after it breaks in a bit more I'll adjust the low needle and maybe improve that area. But WOW!, I love this plane. It flys so nice. Flat spins are awesome. KE is almost perfect. And it lands pretty easy also. THe DA 100 seems to be a very good match. I'm getting 38lbs thrust and the plane weighs 26lbs 15ozs. I weighed it in my garage with my super accurate fish scale and that is the true weight. That's with twin canisters and NiMH batteries. I suspect 25 1/2 lbs would be possible with light batteries and stock DA mufflers. But I can tell ya...it flys pretty darn good the way mine is set up.

Had a great day and weather was about as good as it gets here in Idaho.
Thanks
Barry

I know I'll go back through this entire thread and read it, but I'm wondering if anyone has some flight info of the 35% suk with a zdz 80 super? Enquiring minds want to know.

Peter

Canisters add almost a pound, so with stock mufflers and lighter batteries you would be about 25.5 lbs.

This is always difficult to comment on. It depends on what you expect. I sold a 35% Extra to a guy who put a ZDZ-80 on it and he just loves it.

Hey silversurfer;
I am in the process of building my Suki. I have the same Brison 104 you started off with. My question for you is the proper cooling for this motor. Did you baffle the air intake and if so do you have a picture to show how you did it? I fried the rear jug on my Brison once already when I had a GS Giles 202. After baffleing the cowl the overheating was gone. A friend of mine fried his EVolution 116 three times already in his H9 Extra because he flies it with no baffles. Did you have ane balancing issues using the Brison, or was it more like shifting the battteries in the right location. My last questionis regarding the thrust angles: I believe there is no thrust at all built into the motor box. Do yo need down thrust or some right thrust to fly perfectly straight?
Thanks for your help in answerin my questions.

Man, I haven't used that sign in name for awhile...

I never installed baffles in mine, although I should have. The only thing I did was to block off airflow beyond the engine box. Since I treated mine like a pile driver during a rolling harrier I never had the chance to truly explore the temperature envelope as it was.

Working with RTK's Sukhoi I know that the first type of baffles he installed worked pretty good with his BME 115. The 115 ran hotter than the Brison. There's some pictures of them waaaay back in this thread somewhere. Probably somewhere between page 20 and 35.

As for the engine thrust line, I liked it just the way it was with zero-zero. For IMAC you might like 1/2 degree of right and down but it's really a matter of personal preference. I preferred none at all. The KE pitch to the gear will get more pronounced as the CG moves aft.

Thanks "Old man". I guess, since I fly more IMAC, I will go for 1/2° right and some down as well.
