Silversurfer,
Excellent report! Sounds like I found my first 35%er. This Airplane is everything that I had in mind for my first true GIANT. I wonder when pre-orders are going to be taken? And will you be flying the new BME 115 on this airframe? I have narrowed my engine choices down to the new BME-115 or 3w-106. And would love to read a flight report on the new BME-115 before I decide. I can tell by your reports that this was a tough job But somebody had to do it. (lol).
Thanks again,
AL.

Several planes have already been pre-ordered, no time like the present.

Speaking of presents, the Sukhois shoule be here before Christmas.

I will be flying this plane with the new 115, but unfortunately my work shedule will delay that until after the first of the year. I've been on a type of short sabbatical, but have to return next week.

Oh, I forgot this and it's kind of important. You 40% guys need to watch out. This 35% Sukhoi will be able to compete head to head with you anytime and anyplace, and as RTK noted in a phone conversation earlier, will be able to hold a constant speed flight much easier than all the Extras out there. In any size!! The big Yaks don't have a chance.

It WAS a good morning of flying with Silversurfer. What can I say, Pat pretty much covered it all and was on the money in his flight analysis.. I was able to take the stick for a little while (thanks Pat) and really enjoyed the time I had flying the Sukhoi.

BME. Why carry the extra weight with a less powerful engine in the 3W? If you are in the market for a 100cc class engine there really isn't another rational choice.

Yes there is - DA100

If you already have one I could see it, but if you were in the market for a 100cc class engine then the DA loses big time. Weaker and heavier than the 115. The old 3w 120 would be comparable but with a large weight penalty.

The 115 loaded up with ignition and mufflers weighs what the DA 100 weighs bare.

What worries me about the 110 and 115 is that I don't want to have to put everything so close to the engine to get the plane to balance. I'd be happier with a little bit heavier engine as long as it was easier to balance the airplane. The hoops I've seen people have to jump through to get a 110 equipped plane to balance is, in my opinion, insane.

Plus, that big carb extension protruding out of your aircraft with 115 in it????

That's where the Sukhoi will be a natural platform for the light engines. A scale look with a Sukhoi has the prop extended farther forward than the usual aerobat. Slightly longer standoffs would easily move the engine a little more forward helping with the balance. Another nice feature with a round cowl airplane is that with the engine a bit farther forward the prop is in better air, making better efficiency than one farther back on a heavier engine. That's just a natural fact with any round cowl airframe. Those flying Yaks already found this out.

The carb extension/manifold on the 115 might as well not even exist as far as the Sukhoi is concerned. There's a lot of room under the carb on the 6.4 that's in it now.

As for balance, here's about all that I figure will be needed with the lighter engines. Rudder servo moved from the aft end of the tray to near the wing tube. Piece of cake. Flight batteries mounted to the vertical posts on both side of the gas tank instead of behind the wing tube on vertical posts as I have them now. With the amount of room available and numerous mounting location choices in this one, I can't understand why anyone would have a problem with any engine they wanted to use. From light to heavy.

RTK called me a few minutes ago and told me what rpm numbers he was getting in the first few minutes of ground running time on the new 115.

I'm only going to mention the numbers he obtained with a Menz 28-10. He didn't want to post them because he figured nobody would believe him. Well above 6,700 rpm, and he was reluctant to note the part about the engine hitting 6,900 until he shut it down and richened it up from factory setting.

Just a minor correction Pat, Menz-s 27x10 & Mejz 28x10. I might have been a little excited when I called you, but the numbers and the way this engine ran had me in awe I will swear the first WOT did hit 6800+, although I find it hard to believe myself.
