I think V-tails are better, Especially spread out to 115 degree angle, less drag

I don't think I've ever had a post removed by RCU until now..

Thats another difference RB, I believe yours is at 110 degrees, mine is at 115.

I'd like to have seen that before you cleaned it up Lee.

Honestly, I don't think the airplane cares what the tail is shaped like, as long as you have enough scare inches to keep it stable. I think that all the tails have unique advantages at different times. there is NO arguement that the V-Tails are much easier to launch and have a great advantage in this area. (nothing to get in the way of your callers hands when he gives a good push) They also have drag advantages with less joints at the fuse. The standar tails are much easier to build and get the incidence correct on. they have worked for years and you don't see many differences in airspeed . (most Q40 airplanes use a standard tail) I am a BIG fan of T- Tails because I do think that they are faster in a turn and they look cool , plus hardly anyone uses them. there is a reason for this. They are a HUGE pain in the butt to get correct and to get all the linkage set up. they also have a disadvantage on the start! Very few people are good at launching a T- Tail and its difficult to get a good push, so you are playing catch up from the moment the flag drops . IMHO

Wow, a cheap shot by GS

This plane just might make it to Phoenix

Still a few bugs to work out, but overall it flew quite well today. I had two flights on it before its first race, which I don't recommend, but I wanted to fly it. I moved the CG forward and it all but eliminated the yawing to gear on knife edge. This plane is one of the most stable I have flown, but it needs a little wing tip weight as it was slightly rolling out and up out of a hard #1 turn which made it tough to keep it down on the course without over rolling before my #1 turn.

Glad to hear it is flying nicely.

Note that a lot of the performance of this plane is probably due to the sweet wing that Bruce made for Dave, as well as Dave's building skills. But the tail doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

I enjoyed making the molds from the tail plug that Dave produced, and I've enjoyed communicating with Dave while he has worked on making tails. It was a fun project.

Molds for the tail used on this plane are available at a really good price. If you want to produce the same tail that Dave laid up for this plane, contact me via email or private message. I also plan to sell tails at a nice price. Right now my time is limited because of the RCPRO Pylon Promo Tour, and the Club 40 activity. But I can help you learn to make composite tails, and Dave obviously can as well.

I've got Bruce's Taipan Q500 and Sumptin Else Q40 models with T Tails and they are very quick around No.1 as PJ points out.

The trick to launching them is to hold the wing with one hand and hook two fingers (of the other hand) under the T Tail, with your thumb pressing down on top of the tail plane. This technique is easy and effective. Bruce showed us at AMPRA (Australian pylon champs in Victoria) in June.

Setting the linkages up the T Tail in Bruce's moulded planes in not a problem either. I did have to make a jig to hold every thing straight when repairing and re-attaching the tail assembly after a takeoff ground loop and cartwheel.

DN -... 220, 221.. whatever it takes. Fortunately my dad was a TV repair man, he has the ultimate set of tools. Less drag, more drag... seems like all the BS that goes on in the forums is just that... "drag"... good humor though.

AJ - stay away from the "fat tails" and the "heavy tails"... those will hurt you for sure. Throws the CG way off..

SuperT's caller..still.
