savagejim i agree i went to there site and looked at whats in there superchargers then went out to my garage and made one my self out of a old pull start housing, plexy glass and a fan blade that looked identical to the rb one. And it did blow air but supercharging a two stroke wouldnt work so i threw it some where i dont remember where

Oh em gee! i have the perfect idea- instead of using a supercharger, be it crankshaft driven or exaust gas driven, we should put power directly back into the crank- use a turbocompund! just like the Napier nomad or the R3350. we all know that when u scale down the actual engine u also scale down the flame front burn rate and all that stuff....a turbo compound is bound to work, after all if it works in full size it will work in a model too.....

waste ur money kiddies lol

scale down that ****..haha

That's a PRT (Power Recovery Turbine) which has a turbine much the same as in a turbocharger except the turbine then drives the crankshaft through a gearbox and one way drive kind of like a pull start on an RC car engine. They work quite well on aircraft engines tha basically run almost full throttle all the time.

I've never quite figured out why they aren't used in car racing where an unsupercharged engine is required.

yeah when you get a nitro car get familliar with the engine assembly and how it works before you go to big mods to it!!!!

its not hard once you get the hang of these engines there easy to work on. im only 13 and i rebiuld my engines with ease.

kudos to "downunder" for knowing what Im talking about, a turbo compound is impractical on anything smaller than an automobile engine.
btw, The Formula One race car league has banned turbo compounds, the rules specify the car must have only "one" engine....hehe

PRT=parts recovery turbine

!!!!NOTE!!!! I am not bringing this thread back to resurrect the arguement; I am bumping it up because the question this thread addresses keeps on coming up.

As you can see, forced induction on model engines is a very heated subject and based on the dozens of posts contained in this thread, you can see that the subject is literally beat to death and argued over with great conviction from both sides.
I agree with Apollo, the subject is rally best left alone, so please do not bring back the arguments. I just want this thread to be available strictly for informational purposes.

Again, I am not bring up this argument again, I just want all who have questions concerning this (especially the folly that RB Innovations calls a "supercharger" to have this thread ready at hand so they can read the long and drawn out explanations of both sides without having to continually create a new thread every month that says "Turbo or Super Charger?"

This is a long read, but it is exhaustive for most RC purposes. For all who have questions concerning forced induction on model engines, plese take the time to read this thread as much as possible.

im a supercharger rs3 owner, and i'm also a mechanic and any other mechanics on here will know that no engine can run with out the proper cycle, and one of them being compression, any engine produces compression, so how can the inlet air of the SC go in the inlet and be forced out before the stroke? it doesn't....but the pressures are not going to be great with an engine of such a scale, and the RB innovations supercharger like mine aint the best way to make one, i'm looking into modifing my engine to make a procharger, to those that don't know what that is its a crank driven method of boosting the engine, and with such high rpm the results could be good, i am also thinking about removing the heat sink and making the engine a sealed unit and have a fuel rail more like a normal car rather than the carb option, this can also make fuel management digital if i'm right, and i'm thinking on a new way to keep the engine cool, maybe water cooled, weight might be a problem though....as far as the supercharger goes RB's supercharger is not a bad product, although expect alot of messing around with fueling to get it going right.

you cant just overcool the engine, you'll kill it, you will run it lean and burn it up, 2 strokes supercharge themselves, and we also throw a highly volatile thing in there called nitro

Bah, glow plug fuel is a ****cat comparied to other fuels. Try jet A fuel, that will put hair on your sack.
Type R Mad: Fuel injection sounds like a nice idea. Water cooled is efficent too but then there is always the chance of damage while running, and loosing all fluid, but the big boys use it, so why not.

yes it does seem a good idea but the cost of building it will not be so good lol, this won't be happening the now but i do have plans on making more of a real working engine to fit in a 1/10 scale car, with proper exhaust, so more down the lines of a 4 stoke, or a v4/flat 4.

Jet A would work well in a model diesel because they use kero, ether and oil....and Jet A is just a good kerosene.

Erm,where do i start?Any crankcase pressure built up by the super charger is lost as the transfer ports and exhaust port are open at the same time!Quote"with such high rpm the results could be good"?How many cylinders will you have if your using a fuel rail?A fuel rail distributes fuel to the separate injectors!Digital fuel management,so your fitting a battery, ecu, crank posistion sensor, ego sensor, etc.?Please don't mislead people,if you know something i don't then i look forward to your project slapping me in the face.

i mean a fuel rail as a pressurised injection other than the carb option, and its not an ecu as such, its not hard to make up a loom to switch off and on in time, and you aint exactly gonna need a car battery to power a small circuit are you???, as you said if i go ahead it will be full of question marks but theres only one way to find out.....

I really do not mean to be rude, but(there always is a but)i really do think that you are out of your depth.Start of with basic modifications first.
