I am looking to build my first scale model. My kit building experience so far has been a Four Star 40, Tower Hobbies Extra Special 40, and a Midwest Super Hots. I am thinking about the following kits: Balsa USA Eindecker 90, Balsa USA Fokker DVIII, or the Flair Fokker DVII. Suggestions?

Hi kwbrown,

Welcome to the scale crowd. You've got a good selection to choose from for a first scale model and WW1 is a great place to start. No worries about flaps, retracts, engine cooling, or high wing loading.

As to your list, I would tend to go with the Balsa USA Eindekker. A fellow in my club has one (pictured below) and he likes it for these reasons: 1. Short time to build 2. Easy to transport and field assemble 3. Flys very solidly (he let me fly it). 4. Lands much better than your typical WW1 Bipe.

Additional problems you won't have to deal with are cabane setup (Fok D8 and D7) and multi wing incidence setup (D7). I fly 3 different biplanes and that's usually what takes the most time when building.

Whatever airplane you choose, you will have a blast! Scale is very addictive-you always want to add just one more detail.
