Hi

Very forgiving airframe. I did not build the one I flew but It was easy to land and take off. What esle can one ask for.

Hi,

I did build and fly this model some years ago.

Builds ok, I modified the aileron/flap hinges to do away with the metal on metal contact of the kit supplied items.

I had to guess control throws and the plans/ instructions give no idea (sorry did not keep a note of what they were!)

Watch the wheel spats, a hard landing can cause the rear top to flick up and hole the wing, leave some space at the top to avoid this.

Sadly only lasted two flights until a radio problem caused it to hit the ground at full throttle, total write off.

Simon.

ya know.....I dunno why we ask these questions. Is it to scare the hell out of us? It must be. We all know the adrenelin flow involved with flying a warbird that we have no experience with. Thats the best part ,aside from a perfect first flight and subsequent "perfect flights".
Scalecraft.........that is very reassuring! Hope this one flys as well as youres.
Slug........I like the pic. Sorry to hear about the radio. Just when ya think you have all the problems worked out......wham! Ya took time to modify what you beleived to be a potential radio problem, (the metal to metal hinges), and a radio problem spit it back in yer face. I wonder, with these metal to metal hinges, if a radio probem could be in the works?
Ya know....they never crossed my mind. I will leave them in but will watch for others experience in this area. Each time I ever saw a "complete radio failure", it was a "turn on" by some non-thinking "buddy". ya sure it was the radio? I just got one back that went berzerk after takeoff, after i had modified the radio a little, and it checks out fine. And come to find out, some guy at the club is scared to be around me all of a sudden.......hmmm...........he should be ha ha .
Back to the plane. I would love to know who built this plane. I bought it in houston area, from a guy that got it from a guy for doing some building. I got it from "Jetmex". Hes a great guy. Anyone know who built it? It was complete with rivets and panellines, and the wing tip was broke off. The plane had been cartwheeled. I put a mds 78 that chugs along just fine, inverted with a sullivan remote glow installed. Hope no flameouts, as thats what always happens with inverted engines, no matter what anyone says.
Question #2: do I mix the flaps with the ailerons for full aileron?
I guess not .........but I wonder.
3#: I have always heard that stukas with underslung ailerons have a sluggish response...true? a fella would think so .
I ordered wheel skirts from great planes for their arf stuka, and I will have about 5/8 " space on top. I will contact hobby barn for throws. Anyone else?
Pics will be posted soon, if anyone show any interest in this restoration project.
thanx fellas, if ya think of anything else...............

Yep, my radio problem had all the trademarks of somebody 'switching on', the plane just did it's own thing for a few seconds before the ground got in the way, I know all my clubmates well and nobody did shoot me down. Never did find the problem but binned the receiver as the most likely cause.

I used a ST.90 which had more than enough grunt, I did not mix flaps in, ailerons seemed to have enough 'bite' by themselves, but you understand my flying time with model was rather limited!

I figured the flap s would not be mixed in but I may mix em with the elevator a bit..I dunno yet. I have everything on order for this plane, just waiting!

I have one also (Royal Kit) ! Power is a OS 91 Surpass ! Not flown yet, since I decided that we had to go in and replace those metal on metal hinges on the ailerons and flaps. The whole wing had to be taken apart (well almost). Hope to have it ready for upcoming spring. Should be an easy flyer. No mixing in the ailerons I think. I used to fly a Ziroli Stuka, and the Roll rate was more then enough.
I am a 3D flyer now and converted from warbirds, but this one (and my first warbird also : a Great Planes FW 190) will remain in my Hangar until the flying gods claim them.
Oh yeah, I do have the plans, so if you need a copy I'll can take them to Kinkos and then send them over to you (if you pay for shipping and copy).

Here is a picture of my Royal Stuka :

Hi,
I am currently building the Maratuka Stuka kit. If you need an interior kit for your Stuka, Bob Dively models has one available for a 60 size Stuka. I ordered one and it looks pretty good. I am sticking with the current aileron set up since the only time I was ever shot down was by one of our club members.
I have glassed the wing and shoud have it finished by the end of the week. I plan to use a ST 75 for power. I have never seen one fly but I here that you need a fairly long takeoff run. As soon as I get some pictures I will post them.

nice man! I loved that plane for years and never saw one. mines gonna be covered in silver fabric, and painted flat black on the top and sides with deer blind paint. Its fuel proof. Im using 1/32 pinstripe for the panellines, and white glue from a syringe for rivets, under the paint. . This plane , as it sits weighs 7.5 pounds without fueltank. What did yalls weigh you guys?
Im hoping to have 8 lbs total when finished. heres a pic

heres a pic of the scab job. after the tip was attached, the trailing edge had a dip in it, w/a bunch of "wash in". i scabbed a peice of 1/16 balsa in the low area to avoid using a ton of filler. This will be sanded even, and the trailing edge reshaped.

My model looks like it will top out at about 9, 10 lb range. The fiberglass does not add much weight. On the newer kits the cowl is made of ABS which I have reinforced with some heavy fiber glass. The wheel pants are also ABS and I have also reinforced them with glass also. I will be installing a bomb drop and a sliding canopy. I usually hide my charging jack and switches in side the canopy.

The canopy's for the Stuka slide. The front canopy slides backward as does the rear canopy for the gunner's position. Squadron Signal has a good book on the Stika you might want to get a hold of. I wiil be doing my Stuka in the colors of he Italion airforce.
