As the name implies, there are no brushes that can wear out. the only wear is going to be the bearings. They are much more efficient so run longer and cooler and require less power to do the same job. Barring major impacts (crashes) that can cause damage, brushless motors last...and last...and last...and.....keep running with the same power output...very little degradation of performance. That's not to say you cannot damage them though. Brushless motors run most efficiently at high rpms so its best to run high curves... 0, 60, 90, 100, 100 100, 100, 90, 100, 100 basically above 80% will run the longest and coolest. You can damage a brushless motor by getting it too hot....180 deg ++ If you plan on flying a particular model for a long time, it can be very much worth the investment. The piece of mind alone (motor not going bad in flight) is worth it to me. If you plan to trade up to a better model soon than keep the brushed motors, replace a few of them as they wear out and save your $$ for the next "better" heli. I'm closing in on 300 hours on my BCP (frankinblade)....230 of those hours are on the same Himax 2015 3600 brushless motor. The feigao tail motor has over 150 hours on it now as I put up with a brushed tail for much longer than I did a brushless main. Both run the same as the day I put then on new. I got one of the good GWS Direct drive motors (many are bad out of the box....got lucky) and had close to 40 hours on it before I simply replaced it with the feigao.
