Can you provide some pictures and we can help. Not sure which tail wheel you are referring to as there are many types that come with our kits and arfs. Was this a hardware kit you got with the Yak? Some have Ohio Superstar tailwheel assemblies and some have Sullivan assemblies. The Ohio Superstar type uses separate control horns you mount on the bottom leading edge of the rudder and run the springs between the tail wheel horns and these. Or you can run them backward to a center point on the bottom of the rudder (better). The Sullivan type uses a spring that also runs along the bottom of the rudder to an attachment point.

My only problem is, how to fix the horns on the rudder.
If i mount it as displayed on the instructions i cant put this piece on the other side:

Because i'll find the other horn on the other side.
Sorry about my english, i dont know if you are understanding my problem.

Thanks

Sorry, don't have pics readily available but this is not hard to install. As I mentioned above you can do this pretty much three ways. First you can connect the springs to the existing pull-pull control horns on the rudder if you have pull-pull cables. Second you can add the control horns provided and connect the springs to them. Run the screws through both horns so they are lined up. You can cut the plastic backing plate in half corner to corner to make plastic nuts for one side. Or Third you can run both springs aft and secure using a single screw in the bottom of the rudder. Harden the screw hole with thin CA before final assembly. This is what I do and find it not only easier but less mess as you don't need the plastic control horns.

Thanks. I think i'll use the screw on the bottom of rudder. It sounds the best solution.

i think getting a nut for the supplied bolt should have been included with this little kit. to me it seems rather odd they include this stuff that is meant to have two control horns facing each other but it really doesn't work unless you modify it somehow or add a few parts.
i have the same tail wheel and have wondered the same thing. i think also buying a proper horn for the rudder is probably a good bet too.

anyway, just my $.02 worth.

Nothing like being 4 months late with your thoughts. But I agree with you. Don't know why Ohio Superstar assemblies don't include 2-56 nuts exactly for this purpose. personally I don't use the horns though. I run both springs rearward to a common point on the botom of the rudder. Drill a hole, harden with thin CA, and then use a servo screw to secure the spring ends.

just found this thread a couple of weeks ago and then coudn't find it again. i am just getting to the point of installing them myself. so you affixed the spring to the bottom of the rudder. how far out from the hingepoint edge of the rudder did you mount it?

Not far but just enough to get the proper tension on the springs. I like this method better as it has better geometry for the springs to control the tail wheel. With the springs attachedd to those control horns mounted higher on the rudder base, the spring angle is not good in my opinion.

Everyone should remember that the main purpose of the springs is not so much to steer the plane around on the ground, that is what the rudder is for. Tail wheel setups are always a win and loose because a rigid tailwheel/rudder setup has a very good chance of damaging a servo or even the rudder should it get a strong bumb in the wrong direction which can happen on cross wind landing or even putting the plane down after carrying it back to the pits. The spring setups do not have as much ground handling accuracy while taxiing the plane but their much more friendly on the servo and rudder, one has to remember also that the tail wheel hardly ever comes into play on take-off as it's off the ground very quickly and the rudder does the trick again.

The rudder in 95% of the cases are designed to be strong enough on tail draggers to taxi the model around too in considerable wind conditions. Now back to the springs. Their only real purpose IMHO is too keep the tail wheel more or less in track or straight for landings. You don't want to touch down with a tail wheel sitting at 90 degrees as this could spell a minor booboo right after touch down. My point then being one should just install the springs so they would keep the wheel from going round and round on the steering axis while flying.
