shhhhucantcme,

Very cool heli pad, how long did that take to make and what kind of lights are on it?

If Christmas is each try to the LHS and you can include the UPS or Fedex guy delivering parts you ordered online.

Hmmm, I must have had a least 15 or 20 Chrismas's already..

I love Christmas ,

Psikelly,

Sorry, I read the thread first, soo I get to build it first.

========
Remember the tread, where I put the CF blades on and broke the paddle contol frame.

That night I just put it on the table.

Tonight, I was going to replace the frame.. Well, further observation showed that the tail boom is split, thr right skid is brokent and the canopy is split.

I thought I was gonna cool it for awhile, but now have to buy more stupid parts.

I thought about it and theres just no way Ill get the money I want for my CP and I can always sell my 4 in 1 and TX for 50 bucks and Im doing OK.
Yah theres always something else to buy

Psikelly,

LOL, that was a DUMB statement I made "cooling it". I just keep pulling out the old wallet and let er rip .

Are you going with the aluminum swash plate too?

Quick question:

I've haven't had to do this yet, so I don't have a clue where to start.

How do I get the boom of the frame and the tail motor housing, without breaking something else?

Also, I now what CA glue is, but never used it on heli, what kind do I need and how much just a drop or two?

Thanks,

Dave / Choppersrule

Yah I actually ordered the aluminum swash from HeliDirect along with the super landing gear and umbo heat sink. Im hoping Itll be here tomorrow or Friday. I paid 20 bucks for the fast shipping lol

The CA I use it Flash. Flash is the brand name. Get the THIN cause it flows nicely into tight spaces. And just 2 or 3 drops. no more. And careful with this Flash stuff cause I accidentally got a bit on my finger and glues it to the servo. I actually had to RIP it off the servo.

To get the parts seperated the best way I find is get a small container and fill it up with varsol or paint thinner. I strip all electronics etc off the frame and soak the whole thing in the thinner for like a couple hours. With a couple small taps on a counter or something it should seperate nicely. If its still stuck soak it again and if you have a heat gun then giver er some heat. Just keep this up and itll seperate

Psikelly,

Thanks for the advice, will give it a go. I'll have 3 days to get it apart. After this post, I'm on my way to hobbyzone.com to order a whole mess of parts. I know my LHS won't have it all, half the time they don't even have a set of blades or a tail motor.

Thanks again,

Dave / Choppersrule

Oh... The paper clip shear pin broke too.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the compliments. This was constucted with 1x4 for the frame and 3/8 plywood top. The lights are all 5mm 3 volt led's that are on their own seperate curcuit. White, red, Green, but same 2 d cell battery supply. Each curcuit has it's own 500ma potentiometer so that I can dim or brighten as needed.

It was only a 4 day project, mostly because of the paint needing to dry, and also a lot of soldering. The total size is 24x30 so that it looks okey with my cx ( The circle and H are a little big for it ) but the wider width accomodates the rotor size of my pro and looks more realistic. My trex looks ok also but it could be a little longer.

Keep it in the air, not in the garbage can!

I actually just use a heat gun to remove CA'd parts. It works really well. Just heat it up and give it a twist. Repeat until it 'lets go', and the boom or tail just slides out. The plastic parts on the BCP and the carbon fiber can take a lot of heat without melting or deforming, so don't be afraid to heat it up as much as necessary. I wouldn't use a flame, such as a torch, though... Just hot air from a monokote heat gun or similar...

Also, I use thick, slow cure CA. It doesn't wick into the parts as easily, but it is much easier to work with, and doesn't bond as instantly as the thin stuff. I just put a few tiny drops on the boom, then shove it in. Let it sit for about 1 hour or so, and it's locked in tight.

Many people have different procedures for doing this sort of thing. Best to experiment, and find a procedure that works well for you.

I use the Great Planes CA, or really any CA. I've never noticed any difference in the brands per-se...

Youre probably right CT. Ive just always used Flash and Zap an they bond balso so well that Ive never looked for anything else. The medium might be a good idea too. Like you say the thin wicks in maybe a bit too much and the stuff I use cures in like 2 seconds.

I tried taking my boom apart 2 nights ago with just heat but the sucker wouldnt let go. I clamped vice grips on the boom and that wouldnt even help. I didnt care cause the boom was split anyway. The varsol did the trick anyway with heat as well.

BTW I dont know if you guys seen the post from earlier where I was talking about the frames in the CP and the Pro but is there any difference at all in the 2 like my LHS says????
I dont think there is because they only list 1 frame for both helis at the Horizon site.

The main frame is the same. I've always used locktite and the stuff my LHS sells, for CA. I'm now sitting in Gloucter, MA, with the heli on the coffe table of the hotel room. Haven't had a chance to fly yet, but I should have plenty of time. I hope to find a good hobby shop before I go home on sunday. Perhaps I'll come home with a box.

That heli pad is super sweet, shhhhucantcme

Does it serve some practical purpose, or is it just for display? I mean, do you take it to the field and actually use it for landing, etc.? I'd hate to plop something that nice down in the middle of some ol' field

Of course, it'd look very nice in the driveway

Guys,

Thanks for all the advise getting my tail boom off the main frame and rotor housing thingie. I'll post any screw ups.

----
Loswave,

Can you at least give us a hint, a big box, medium size or a lot of little ones.

Dave / Choppersrule

PS.. Got all my parts ordered, now for the typical three day wait, guess I'll go and have some chips and oreos.
