Hey Dave!

Real Flight G3 is one of the best Sims I have ever seen!! Initally it was very difficult for me to cough up the $200.00 from the LHS to get it but I had to do it. It works very well and actually looks better than some of the military/commercial flight simulator database programs that are used for training pilots! (I should know, I build miltary/commercial flight simulators ))

I know what you are thinking............Hmmmm why did I pay $200 when I could have bought it on-line for $180???? Well, it was kind of an impulse buy when I went to buy some parts for my B-CP. (BladeCP Story of The Year) Since I got it from my LHS, They gave me the RF G3 expansion pack #1 for free.

The only drawback I have been hearing on the web about G3 is you have to have a pretty good computer and graphics card for it to work. I have and HP P4 3.0Ghz proc, 1 gig ram, and newer Nvidia graphics card so no probs for me. I am working on piping it to my 52" DLP TV through the second DVI out on the Nvidia card. If that doesnt work, I will buy that 24" Acer LCD monitor on www.newegg.com

Crash,

I've got a Dell Computer, about 3 years old.. 2.0 gig clock, 512 meg ram, nvida mx4000 video card. Think that would be enough, or do I have to buy a new computer too?

Thanks,

Dave / Choppersrule

It may work but I doubt it with the mx4000. If it does work it'll be horrible. Replace the card, if you don't know how I'd be happy to help, pm me. You can get a new card for like 50 to 100 bucks that'll do well enough. You may also want another 512 mb of ram if you have a spare slot for it. The 2.0 Ghz should be good enough, depending on the chip.

Dave,

I agree with Loswave. Your 2.0 Ghz Processor speed should be fine, but you will have to beef up on ram, another 512meg stick minimum. Also, you will have to get a new video card. I buy all of my computer stuff from www.newegg.com, shipping is fast and prices are cheap.

Before selecting a new video card you need to check the official Real Flight G3 video card compatibilty chart.

Here-------------->> http://www.knifeedge.com/rfvc_compatibility.php

G3 is well worth it. I get to crash $3500 .90 size 3D nitro heli's all day long and don't have to rebuild squat!!!!

Post your PC's model number and make, and ill help you out!

Crash

Hey crash, why does Dave need a new video card? I just got my g3 and it would not work in my computer, even though it has a 3.6 mh and 512 ram. My video card was older with memory sharing.

My fix was the exact card dave has

MX4000-t128, 128m dds As long as the card is 3d and 128 memory it wil work

The guy tried to talk me into some outrageously priced unit for 125.00 bucks and i saw this one for 39.99.

I thought for a second and saw more rotor blade purchases if I saved money on the vid card

Daves computer will run it the only thing that will be lacking is the speed of the processor, he may not run fluidly. G3 recommends for optimum to have a 3 gig with 512 and 128 3d card.

My neighbor runs his g3 on a 2.4 gig and it works good..

Did you get that Dave?

Give it a shot if you like. We didn't say it wouldn't work, just that it wouldn't necessarily work well. Like I said though, for about 50-70 bucks you can get something that will blow an mx4000 out of the water, which is good for something like g3.

Hi shhhhucantcme,

I agree with Loswave, I didnt say it wouldnt work and it might, but just to be on the safe side I recommend that Dave (Choppersrule) first upgrade his Ram to at least 1Gig (by adding another 512K stick) and trying it out.

The Nvidia GeForce MX 4000 is a great card to use and is on the approved card list for G3 so Dave should have no issues there. However, I do strongly suggest downloading the latest drivers for the Ge MX4000 from Nvidia & agreeing to load the latest DirectX 9.0c that comes with G3 on the installer program.

As far as the Processor goes I think 2Ghz is plenty fast for G3 because One of my LHS's has an old beat down machine running the demo in the store on a older 15"CRT.

wrh117<----- You can check your PC specs out by going in this order:

Start, Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

Or you can use this handy website www.pcpitstop.com and run the free sytem info tests.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for all the incredible input on the G3 and the requirements needed for the PC to make the G3 program work smoothly.

I understand all the inputs, I'm a computer geek too. Been doing the PC thing for 20 years, yep 20 years. Built several from ground up. But technology has advance so rapidly, and competition so strong. It's faster and almost as cheap to buy off the shelf. A lot easier to, with so many pokers in the fire.

What I think I'm going to do is get the G3, load it, and see how it performs on my current set up and go from there. It may require a stick of ram to blow it out to 1 gig, but that's like to easy. . If I'm not satisfied, I'll give this PC to my wife, (hers is really old) and get a super nice, super fast new one for ME.

wrh117,
Your statement and question:
I hate to do this in a unrelated post, how ever we are already there. How do I check what my computer has?

Hey, The post is "Choppersrule What's in the Box".

It all started as a fun thing from PSIKELLY, wanting to know what was in the box, a picture of a box I posted. It was the Falcon 3D I purchased.

The post kinda turned into a fun and informative site.. Soo, I think anything related to the helis, problems, fixes, new purchases, PC problems related to simulators and concerns are all welcome.

I love this site and all the guys with there inputs and expertise.

Dave / Choppersrule

Hey Choppersrule, How does the MX400 compare with that Falcon of yours?? I want something bigger than the CP that is more stable and hovers more smoothly if thats possible. Theres 2 Hobby shops near me. 1 is only 10-15 minutes away. The owners suck but they have a better selection for helis. Dont know what brands as of yet cuz Ive never looked before.I just know they have more helis than the other place.
The othe hobby shop only carries Helimax as far as I know but theyre REAL helpful and real cool guys so I go there almost all the time and I know they stock replacement parts for the MX.

Psikelly,

Comparison of the Falcon and the MX400:

I really can't answer that. When I purchased the Falcon, it was totally an impulse buying thing.. It was read to fly, with everything included. Brushless motor, Head Holding Gyro, direct drive, etc.

I did some research on the MX400, most were kits and cost more than the Falcon. Plus, TX was extra and so on.

Bottom line, It's a super hard decision to make, what's the best bang for your budget.

So far, I'm totally happy with the Falcon. About 30 flights and only 1 broken blade...Can't say that for the CP.

Head Holding Gyro is the nuts. And direct drive, WoW.

The Falcon is $299 plus shipping.

As you have probably seen on some of my other posts, I now have 5 helis and within a year, at the current spending will have 12 or 13 of those ****s. Probably not, but never know.

lol I think you need 7 helis at least to qualify as a fleet so you better get buying.

I wish my LHS carried parts for a Falcon cuz Id be buying 1 tomorrow for sure. The MX has a brushless motor and ESC with it for like 320 bucks but you still have to buy a gyro, servos, and I forget what all else. By the time youre done its running about 800. The Spektrum runs about 220 here in Canada. So all in all its probably gonna total close to 800 buckaroos rtf. Thats a lot of cabbage
