I bought an old Kwik Fli III from a swap meet, and it's probably every bit of 30 years old sporting the original 70's reddish orange paint. The fuselage is beautiful, no need for a strip-down. The wing on the other hand, is kinda wrinkled with that old fabric covering. I wouldn't mind redoing it and possibly adding retracts. I've looked everywhere for this color covering or paint, and nothing matches. I also have 2 spare wings that came with it that don't match. How can I possibly get the paint to match? Seems like they don't have as many colors to choose from nowadays.

If you don't mind paying for it, carry the fuse down to the local automotive paint supply and have them mix up a quart for you. They should be able to get a dead-on match. Try PPG Concept.

Excellent idea! Never thought of that. With such a paint, what do you recommend; doing something to prep the wood sheeting, or cover it in white then paint?

I think you will want to carefully remove all the old fabric and replace it completely with a new fabric.

You may want to do some internet and RCU searches to shop for an appropriate material and method. We're not talking monokote here, so be prepared to learn something different.

Old-timers in your area can be a wealth of knowledge, too and I'm sure they would be thrilled to help you get going on this project.

When recovering the wing Sig Koverall is about the lightest modern covering. The old silk is also still available, and lighter, but not as durable.

Can this Sig fabric you speak of be painted with the automotive paint?
