Hiya! That tells me a few things. (1) the motor runs out of plane but not in (2) aerlerons ok so TX/RX working (3) the circuits are working but need reprogramming - this can only bedone using link I mentioned from another flyer earlier in this thread (page 9 of spitfire manual - its not in our manual. I'll have a guess - the motor wants to run but something is telling it that it might overload circuit (esc). This is a fea. ture of this plane that you can reprogram it to change to LiPo use or vice versa. "Reprogramming" is a doddle if you follow instructions. search out that info and try. If I can do it anyone can (even politicians)!!
COM'N GUYS -a fellow flyer needs help from some more experienced .guys

The Swift is a fun plane to fly given the following conditions:

1) If you have little experience flying, fly the Aerobird Challenger first. It is a little more forgiving.
2) The Swift "could" be a first plane if you have worked on a simulator first.

My initial flight with the Swift was a disaster. Crashed 2 times and was done for the day. Due to a Windy day though
Next flight was a blast! No wind and got it figured out. Fly the Swift with the 8.4 volt battery first. Keep it going forward and don't stall in the turns. The Swift does not require speed but turns much better when you are flying fast. It does not have as much lift as the Challneger but still flies in a similar fashion. Moving to the 9.6 volt 8 cell battery REALLY REALLY make the plane wake up and fly strong. WHen you go from the 7.2 to 8.4 on the Challenger, you tend to get longer flight times as compared to power. Not so with the Swift.

The Swift does not go up and down at low altitude like the challenger; it is stable and flies much faster.

The drawback sto the swift are the wings. The servo connectors are frustrating because the fall in the fusulage all of the time when removing wings. I would suggest putting some packing tape on the wings (prior to installing the wing) where they go into the fusulage. If you crash, this is where the foame will bend and not have a tight fit.

All in all, the challenger is fun because you can get it up high and play on the drafts. But if I were going to try out a more advanced plane in the hobbyzone line (challenger, xtreme, etc) the Swift is just different enough to be fun and provide more aggressive flying.

I know you're right. All the flight notes are a mirror of mine - but its still tough as old boots. This keeps me flying when all my other planes are being repaired. Nice to here from you!!!

Hello! Not familiar with FMS - mine is Realitycraft (el cheapo cheapo model, £20). The first plane on mine is identical in all aspects to Swift, but a bit slower. Upping the power pack today for Zagi, which I can also use for Swift. I'm finding Swift OK but could do with a little more oooomph!! Keep you posted.

Tough is right!

If one is to crash the SWIFT, it usually a hard one (as compared to the challenger). But it take a licking and just keeps on tickin. Also, doesnot suffer from prop stikes to the wing as compared to the challenger. Obiviously due to the 2 part wing construction

I do have some tips for maqking the Swify stronger:

1) My swift is still flying stong and the motor mount is showing signs of fatigue. I took some 5mn epoxly and used fiberglass cloth around the back. Now it is solid as a cast. I orderded a new fusulage and I think I will make this modification to it prior to flying that body
2) Take an aluminum rod or fiberglass rod and put it inside the fusulage where the wings attach. Not side to side but long ways in the same direction the plane points. Put it in the "lip" indention of each bottom section where the wing attached. This will beef up the connection andkeep the plastic from having fatigue bends if you crash.
3) if you find the plane pulling one way and the aeilerons are set right, make the adjustments to the elevator on the back. If the plane pulls to the left, raise the left elevator a little. Pulls to the right, raise the right elevator. Classic V-tail adjustments.

Thanks John! I'll make mods asap - going flying now that all the little brats (sorry, kids) are at school. Iv'e also got a new 1300 Mah battery for the Zagi which I might try - weight isn't much more than stock Swift, and size is almost same. Windy, wish me luck

Recently retired and bought my first plane an Aerobird Swift. Very pleased to find this chat board and feel satisfied that my first plane will hopefully give my son and me hours of enjoyment. I especially appreciated the insightful comments of John and aeajr=especially color closeups of unfortunate crash shown on page 3.

Can someone give me some suggestions how I might locate, borrow or buy a simulation program to get some simulated flying experience. I just talked with a club member who informed me about first learning the controls with buddy flying, but I'd like a few hours of simulated flying as it could be a few weeks here before the field and weather is ready for some buddy flying.

Thanks

Hiya! Welcome to the swift and retired club, there are a few us and the list is growing! All input to this site is based on personal experiences and there are a lot more experienced members than myself (you mentioned 2 already!). The SWIFT is good, tough and challenging as a first-time flyer. Do you put the swift in the car complete or do you have a ferrari (like I do in my dreams!) and assemble at site - this raises transprtation probs that are dealt with elsewhere, regarding wings and aerloron wires that pop back into fuse (easily remedied). Try to get at least 1-2 spare props to keep you going at site. All info on weather, take-offs (hand or tarmac), repairs etc are here. A lot of info is in manual (don't overlook it, keep it handy). Personal note: I retired at 55, got bored, went back to work just 16 hrs week and look at trees in valley every morning to check weather conditions. Thanks to Swift I fly 2 other planes, a Zagi wing and ME262 and another on way. Sorry, but I'm hooked for life. Keep in touch. Thanks
