Stan,

I have communicated with Ken and he was trying to post the HTML files.

He is going to post them on RCPRO and he or I will post a link here.

The North Central Florida Club 40 group is having their next race at the Flying Gator's field, Gainsville FL this Saturday April 28, 2007. Come out and join us for a good time. I understand that Sonny's Bar-B-Q will be served for lunch for a small fee.

We had a great practice race at GAMA today! Looks like we'll be adding some more racers to the roster here in the Central Texas area.

Here are some pictures from today's practice.

Yeah, that was fun, nice course out there at GAMA. Are there any races on the schedule there yet?

Not yet, but we are working on it! There will be at least one, but probably in the fall when the corn field is harvested.

I had a ball today! It's always nice to meet new pilots interested in club 40.
We had some very close racing. Several "brushes" with planes just scraping and trading paint.

Todd and Jared tried to occupy the same airspace more than once with Jared ending up with a rather large hole in the bottom of his racer right behind the wing, courtesy of Todds prop.

Stan Douglas figured out a way to beat Jim Duda! As soon as they were airborne, Stan put his wing into Jim's plane and turned off the switch!!! Stan continued on to finish second while Jim went into the corn!

I can't wait for the "big one" on May 19th at Seguin! Looks like we could have 40+ pilots!!!!

How about you guys in Houston - any one want to join the fun???

See ya'll next month!

Didn't get much trash talkin' in with Stan Douglas and Chuck Waller...but I did hear from them as I was totin' my trashed plane to the trash can...HA! Had a blast, but the best part was watching the first time racers on top of the pins chasin' each other!

For you folks from the midwest, the corn down here is already knee high. No problem finding my plane.

That was fun today at GAMA!

As one of the new racers, novice class.... I want to thank all of you for coming to our field. I for one, had never been to a race before and it really helped to "test the waters" before heading out to a real race.

As for Todd..... I still can't find a scratch where we "wacked wings" on the first turn after takeoff on our second race!

That was fun!

Also, I have uploaded pictures from the event to the club photo gallery:

http://www.gamarc.org/photos/categories.php?cat_id=8

These are scaled down from the original ones, if you want a full size copy, PM me and I will send it to you, all I need is the photo's name from the gallery, they will start with IMG.

Thanks again!

The Flying Gators of Gainesville FL hosted the Club 40 Races yesterday. We had 29 registered pilots and the 29 registered pilots represented 11 clubs in our area. Of the 22 heats flown, 14 individuals won at least one of them. The Gold Race pilots represented 4 different clubs. We had great weather and we all had a wonderful race.

One of the pilots was a little unlucky and received a double whammie...first he had a midair, and then went straight down and centered a 4" fence post.

Take care and happy racing......

I put my new srm2-la40 in the air today. Engine tached at 11000 w/11x4 prop. Balance was a little nose heavy w/heavy hub. Minor trim adjustment and all went well. I expected a faster plane. Even nose heavy you dont need much elevator. I took the heavy hub off and installed the spinner. Also did minor trim settings. Going to try it again tomorrow.
I gotta get some fly time in so the engine will be broke-in by the 19th.
BTW, the back cover screws came loose on the la40. I found out when the needle valve moved around when setting.

Ya, they like to do that! Mine started backing out around 5-6 tanks (maybe sooner...but I noticed it then). I replaced the phillips head bolts with some hex head bolts and used some blue loctite to put them in. They haven't tried to back out since, even with close to 2 gallons through the engine.

With the LA40 they're not rocket ships...but they move pretty good...it fill feel faster with 2-3 others in the air.

I everyone, I'm 16 and belong to the georgetown club, and I've seen a couple guys flying these types of planes around. The pilots told me there is a new(for our club anyway) racing league; I'm real interested. I have an old KB .40 that I'm pretty sure is a ball-bearing type engine, I unterstand that if I use this engine I can't go into the beginer class? I'm an Ok pilot with probably 50 solos on a hanger9 twist. Money is a large issue with me as I spend most of it on guns and stuff, and I would be using the KB .40 with an older JR raido setup, I pressume standerd servos are OK for this plane?

Whats the difference between the LA racer and the sky raider? judging by looks the LA is a nicer plane, but all the guys at GAMA use sky raiders. I guess you can use either plane you like?

Alright I will post more later as I think of it.

Thanks,
Justin

The racer and the raider are very evenly matched. The racer is a little cleaner and should move faster through the straights, you should be able to turn better with the raider since it's a little lighter.

The real difference is $30. The raider is $70 and the racer is $100. Personally I think the racer looks better (which is the only reason I have the racer)

A .40 with ball bearings will push you into the advanced class. You'll probably have more fun if you start in novice. You can "rent" a bushing .40 engine from some of the guys here (forget who has them.) If I remember correctly it's $50 up front, and if you make every race and turn the engine back in and it's in good shape you get $45 back. I believe you're penalized $5 for every race you miss.

I believe standard sized servos are the only ones allowed for racing.
