RCPRO club 40 - Quickie .25 and 2 pole 424! Established and newly forming groups from San Antonio to Dallas / Ft. Worth and back to Houston.

We're still working out the details with other groups jumping in all the time. Right now, this is like a snowball rolling down hill!! Gaining momentum and getting larger every day!

Can it get any better than this?!?!?!

See you there. I will be flipping 'burgers behind all that smoke.

For all of you that Combat event is immediately followed by a Night Fly. Ya'll come, Ya hear.

Yep, it could get better because you are skipping one event that I would like very much and that is the RCPRO Warbird racing event.
For your info, last night, Thurs 10/25/07, Jetero approved our trying Club 40 and Warbird on Sat. June 21, 08. I'll be soon getting that one together. Only the approval and Club 40 is written in stone at this time. There is work to be done..

Up-date on GAMA field conditions. The corn is down and the pylons are up. Come early and practice so we can see how fast you’re going. For those that have not been to our field there is a map on our web site www.GAMARC.ORG .

Early registration is encouraged; just e-mail me at rpetrinec@austin.rr.com with the pertinent info, i.e. class you are flying, frequency channel, AMA # etc.

The GAMA race (Nov. 3) was a resounding success. Sixteen pilots ducked it out with some very close racing. There were no midair’s and only one plane bit the dust. In the third round, lap five, Bob Petrinec got too close to Jim Agnew while turning pylon one and got into some bad air which flipped Bob’s plane into the ground.

Besides the great turn out, a lot of good things happened at this race. Laser cut wooden plaques were made AND DONATED by Chuck Esh. These plaques were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the A Main as well as one for fastest time.
Don Stegall donated some nice shirts in the name of RCPRO.
A gallon of Power Master fuel was donated by Doug Staines, our new District VIII Associate Vice President in the name of District VIII.
The fuel used for the race fuel was donated by Randy Ritch of Ritches brew!
It is so nice to have all of these sponsors!!!!!
A big THANK YOU to all of them!

Also, a big thanks to Chuck Waller for helping me run the event so that I could race. I had a great time until the third round.

The race results are as follows;
A MAIN
1st Jim Agnew
2nd Jim Duda
3rd Jack Flesher
4th Ray Allen

STANDINGS AFTER FOUR ROUNDS
Jack Flesher 15 points 1:31.35 best time
Jim Duda 14 points 1:32.47 best time
Jason Duda 13 1:28.35 Fastest time
Ray Allen 12 1:28.81
Jim Agnew 12 1:36.44
Chuck Esh 11 1:34.41
Mike Funk 9 1:31.84
Ken Hobson 9 1:42.37
Patrick Duffy 9 1:42.97
Stan Douglas 8 1:40.65
Richard Storm 8 1:53.10
Bob Petrinec 7 1:32.91
Terry Large 6 1:44.85
Bob Severance 5 1:41.41
Jerry Stafford 4 1:43.22
Jon Athans 3 1:44.75

There were no entries in novice class. Those that were in novice at the beginning of the year have moved up.

Thanks for putting on a great race Bob! Everyone had a great time and the George Town field (GAMA) is a great one to race at.

We did some practice 424 flying after the event at 400' and then 450' two pole racing and the general consensus is that 450' is a do-able course length for future 424 events. We just now have to do the politics at our club to sooth the anti-racing mentality.

Thanks again to you and your club. I had an enjoyable Saturday.

Greetings from Nashville;

Here is a race report from the North/Central Florida Club 40 group for their last race of 2007 on Nov 17. I couldn't make this one, but I'll go to some of their races next year.

(from Jim Neelands)

November 17, 2007

Ten intrepid pilots faced sub freezing conditions as they congregated at Gateway RC's Lannie Road Model Flying Field for the final race of the 2007 Club 40 racing events. Fortunately, as the event kicked off at 9 am it had warmed up nicely, and the wind was non-existent, so the wraps and hats started to come off, and the thumbs were warming up.

We were able to fly 4 rounds of 3 heats each. The event CD was John Lake, and Robin Lake handled the administrative chores. Patrick Lanfri used their computer to print out the heat assignments and we were ready to go. We had a lot of very close heats, close airplanes, and close pylon calls. There was one pylon incident, where the flag was knocked off the top of the pylon, but the plane finished the race with only a minor notch in the leading edge of the wing.

I don't have the names of the flyers, but it appeared that there were 6 from Gateway RC, 3 from Lady Lake, and 1 from the Flying Gators.

After the 4 rounds had been flown, we had two pilots with 14 pts, 1 with 13 and 2 with 12, necessitating a fly-off. Patrick Lanfri won the fly-off, and the line up for the gold round was ready.

In the Gold round were Bob Holbrook, Kevin Wilson, Patrick Lanfri and one other. Kevin Wilson won the gold.

The trophies were beautiful laser engraved wood plaques. I really wanted one, and after 3 heats it looked like I was in good shape to qualify for the gold round, with two 1'sts and one second, however, at the start of my heat in the 4th round I flooded the engine and spun my prop off, and was unable to get in the air in time. I have no regrets, all of the heats were fiercely competitive and I was happy with my results to that point. I will, however, remember to take more tools to the flight line.

Gateway RC cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, and we all had a great time.

Lyman, my camera is broken, so I didn't get any pictures. Hopefully Patrick can fill you in with the details I missed. We finished up about 1:00 and I headed home, listening to the Gators romp over FAU.

Greetings from Nashville;

I have very good news - - we now have three firm Club 40 race dates for 2008 in Nashville. They are April 19, July 12, and Aug 23.

The host club is the Music City Aviators http://www.musiccityaviators.net/

The races will be at their club field at Peeler Park just east of Nashville. This field is very large, so there will be no space limitations. See their website for directions.

The rules are the same as the RCPRO rules EXCEPT the engine for the Novice class is the TT GP 42 and ONLY the Skyraider Mk II will be allowed. Any unmodified commercially available prop is allowed for both the Advanced and Novice class. Novice class is for those who have NEVER raced before, or who have ONLY raced in the Novice class before.

We will be running a short two-pole course with a flying start. Only 10 laps will be flown in each heat. Scoring will be 4,3.2,1 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places respectively in absolute finish order. Then, penalty points will be deducted; one pt for each cut and one point for a "jump start". Zero points is the minimum score in any one heat. We will be using the standard colored wing marking stripes (low green, low red, high green, high red) for identification.

I heard that one of our local hobby shops had ordered-in 10 SRMkII's and they are already sold. There is a lot of excitement about Club 40 here and a number of guys have been "practicing" with them already.

I will be the CD and Starter for these races, so any questions, E-mail me at dwbebens@hotmail.com.

See the attachment for the rules.

Great news Doug!

If I can do any thing to help, just let me know.

Our local club 40 season "officaly" starts April 5 at ARCA field in Austin, but the practice sessions are already going strong.

We have a combined Club 40 - Q-25 "practice" race in Waco Mar. 1st, and are expecting around 20 - 25 pilots! Most of these guys will be driving 2 1/2 hours+ for a PRACTICE race and get together!

CALLING ALL 'RAIDER RACERS - LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!

Hey everyone .............. My name is Dave and I am starting to fly Club 40. I have been flying for 8 years now and have concentrated on Combat for the last 3 flying with the RCCA. Our club is going to start Club 40 racing so I have been reading up on the past posts for info. One thing I am trying to find is a schedule of events so I can schedule to go to. I live in Indiana, just across from Louisville, Ky, and usually travel 6-8 hours to do Combat.

Do you have a schedule board or forum to post the events for '08?

Club 40 Race at Lady Lake, hosted by The Southern Eagles RC Club

This was the first Club 40 Race at their field since the tornado in Feb 07 destroyed the complete field. This race was one day short of being a year since the disaster.

31 pilots signed up and raced 3 rounds in 8 heats. There was lots of good racing action. The pilots had no mid-air hits but 3 did find trouble.

Two of the pilots found the center pole and hit it dead center with the spinner. This was at different times. Of couse both planes were destroyed, and the new Super Tigre engines met with the same fate. Both engines are now useful for a few spare parts. One pilot lost to a pylon and ended up with Pylons 3....Racers 0....

Tom Craig and his crew did an outstanding job and Bob Holbrook did the Chief Starters job. Now we know how to beat Bob. Just make him the Chief Starter at each race, and problem solved.

Wayne Darnaby, Ed Smith, and Lyman Slack did the photography, just click the link to see the slideshow.

Thanks to everyone involved, you all done a great job.

Next Club 40 Race is this weekend at the Ocala Flying Model Club Field after the regular club meeing, the race will get underway around noon.

Y'all come !!!
