I've had 2 GMS 40's. They work best with a 9x7 prop. 10x6 works good for a trainer type plane. They are louder than the TT 40 and the muffler on the GMS starts to leak exhaust around the seams. We use the muffler on the TT40. Works better than the GMS motor it came with. Racing with a GMS motor will last a year. their the same as the Tower 40 or 46 I believe

What RPMs were you getting with the 9x7 on the stock muffler? On what fuel?

We are getting about 15000 to 15500 on 5% fuel. We use 5% because it's sport fuel and the manufacture says that they run best on this. But most of all I was out voted. I would prefer 15% but that's democracy. During practice I use 15%. Let the plane off a little rich and the motor unloads pretty nice. RPM's don't mean much in club racing, you get what you get, I go by ear with these sport motors.
With a 9x6 prop up here you get more rpm but less bite. So more noise and less get go..

I've used this prop combo on anything from a 500 to a trainer to a low wing like a Carl Goldberg tiger 2 which I think is pretty close to a LA 40 I think. But most people use a 10x6 on these planes I would say. What do you use on your club 40's. What seems to work best??

Druce - we're at 775 ft. elevation in Austin. What's yours? Could make a huge difference in RPM readings. Also, typical humidity down here during race season can vary from 80% to 30%. I've only seen one TT PRO turn more than 16,000 with a 10-5...and that motor was instantly "claimed". Perhaps the GMS is more "torquey" and can pull a bigger prop?

Sorry, I have no experience with the GMS.

"I've only seen one TT PRO turn more than 16,000 with a 10-5..."

Try it with a 10-5...

Claiming rule has been dropped for this season.

We had our second 2007 season Club 40 race in the North-Central Florida series last Saturday. The weather was perfect with light winds mostly from right to left (East) and temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's.

There were 26 entries. The entry fee was way up this time ($3) because each entry included fuel AND a raffle ticket for a Skyraider Mk II kit. I'd complain about the high entry fee, but I don't think it would do any good. Besides, I didn't win the raffle.

We flew four rounds with seven heats in each. There was only one mid-air and no other crashes. The mid-air could be seen in progress many laps before it actually happend, if you know what I mean. In general though, our guys are flying much better as time goes on. AGAIN, a novice won the Gold heat!!!! He flew very well and made no mistakes. I ended up "tail-end-Charlie" in the gold heat because my fuel filter split and the motor lost a lot of power. I'm actually very pleased that a novice can actually win in a Club 40 race.

Our next race is at the Flying Gators field near Gainesville FL on April 28, 2007.

Druce,

With a 10 X 6 APC my TT Pro turns 15,500. I loaned that skyraider to a gentleman who flies 428 and 422. He set fast time in September at 1:26.50. First day that he flew 2-pole. Current fast time is 1:26.30.

With same prop, my LA turns 12,000. I have fast time for LAs at 1:52.xx.

These are the Skyrauder.La Racer on a 400 foot coursr 385 feet out from the pilots.

Texas guys,

Just to set the record straight, we do not have "claiming" this year!!!!!!!

Also, we will be giving out reprints of stand-RCU's break-in procedure at our race.

Come, play with us.

HIM: My dear, you are lovely. If I told you that I am a millionaire and would gladly hand over to you my entire fortune if you would merely spend tonight with me, would you consider it?

HER [blushing slightly]: Oh, goodness ... that's quite flattering ... well, I suppose I would have to think about it.

HIM: In that case, how about you spend the night with me for twenty bucks?

HER: What?! What do you take me for, a prostitute?

HIM: We've already established that. Now we're negotiating a price.

Jim,
You may recall my TT 40 turned 16,600 RPM on a 10x4 the other day at Dell. I'll tell you what, if anyone try's to claim any of my 6 TT 40's I'll pack up and quit the contest. I spend way too much time breaking my engines in to be doing it for somone else for free! I'd be glad to tell them how for free. I even have it posted on the NMPRA site.

Stan

Stan,

Do you have a link to where it is on the NMPRA site? I've gotta make sure to break mine in right so you don't smoke me!
