I am building a 16" cracker box with a trinity green machine 27 turn motor on 6 cells and need some suggestions on what millimeter prop to start with. Im going to get the plastic props I think octura makes some but I need to know a size to start with so I can buy one and then get a few bigger and a few smaller to see what works the best.

Assuming it is a stock 550, I would start with a low-medium, 30'smm prop. Maybe smaller/bigger.

You have to start somewhere. I can almost guarantee the first prop you try won't be the perfect one, no matter where you start.

I used to run a 27T in my 19" scratch built cat. It ran well with a 32mm (Octura x432). It would push a 35mm but sacrificed just a little run time. Octura makes a plastic y531 (31mm) and couple other plastic ones in that range that I tried before selecting one in beryllium copper.

I put bearings in the motor instead of bushing so, I guess that helps a little. I will probably get 31-35 millimeter maybe a 37 also. A long time ago I ran a 13 inch cat with the traxxas trive system but direct drive with the traxxas prop and it was fast and the motor was fine, but I think the motor was able to rev out with that big of a prop was because it was a small boat. (surface drive)
