Well, I'm still new to planes. I did some looking around and found two that I think are kinda cool.
The Ampmaster jr, and the Fokker D7.
There are free plans for both of these plus a whole lot more http://www.svensons.com/airplane/

ckangaroo70,
You're doing a great job keeping the focus where it needs to be. above all we need a strong leader and you fit the bill perfectly.

as far as a plane I would love to see it would have to be the Hughes H-1 racer.

It will go towards a good cause, but I don't want to rush to decide which one because people might have a great idea if they have time to think on what would be the best charity to support. I would prefer it go to aid in Model Aviation some way. Maybe the money could go to help some flyers kid somewhere out there that may need help going to college or a handicapped flyer might require some kind of special aids to help to learn to fly, maybe we could use the money and buy some trainer planes and donate them to certain clubs for there training programs, Jerrys Kids, Cancer, United Way, Red Cross, etc, etc, etc. There are lots of possibillities and lots of various things we could come up with that would be considered a great cause. Everybody needs to think of where they would like the money to go, and we will discuss that as well just as soon as we get a few other things settled.

ckangaroo70,

Thanks for taking the organizational lead on this project. I think it will be paramount in keeping things moving smoothly towards a common goal.
BTW, where in IL are you located? I'm about 30 mi. North of Milwaukee.

I live in Central Illinois about 35 miles west of Peoria! Right smack dab in the middle of a million acres of corn!LOL

I would vote for the Beechcraft Staggerwing built from Nick Ziroli's plan. I think that The Aeroplane Works or one of the other major cutters would probably get involved. The covering material? Koverall and dope, or automobile paint.

Thanks for the kind words. I would not consider myself a strong leader, but I do want to see this project move forward, and am just trying to get things moving. As we move farther into the project we may decide to appoint someone besides myself to organize this project who has more organizational skill than me, and can move things along more effeciently. Everybody will have a part to play here, and I am really looking forward to seeing you craftsman do your stuff. I have seen the Planes that some of you have done, and I must confess that I wished I had that talent. I am a descent builder, but some in this group are awesome from what I have seen.

I probably don't have a vote here but 2 planes come to mind to build that are still in service and were made in so many variants i can't count and just thought i'de see what ur opinions were
1. DC-3
2. Lockheed C130 Hercules
And just a thought why stop at 1 plane, and break them down into classes so there would be more interest at auction?

My vote is for the "Bulldog" Pitts @ 1/3 scale(about 6` wing span) with ,opposed 2 cylinder ,4 stroke engine, smoke system, all the flying wires and decked out cockpit.Flying surfaces modified ,to the real planes specs..The Tri-motor has me worried in the way of ,,,,if it`s scale, then we have to Come up with, 3 Radial engines. .
