The Super Tigre G51 should provide about the same power as the old K&B .61. The early K&B .61 engines really cranked, compared to the later versions.

This model will not knife-edge if its life depended on it, but there weren't many maneuvers that required that kind of performance during its hey-day.

A Webra .50, .55 or .61 would be an excellent choice for high performance. Couple the Webra up with an Ultrathrust muffler and it would scream around the field.

I have two NIB Tower Kaos .40 ARFs I need to get working on. You can bet that a Webra .40 - .55, or a Ross .45 - .50 would reshrink the Monokote during every flight. <G>

I still am wondering about the wing saddle not fitting the wing .it's off by less than 3/8 inch.I think the original owner made a minor modifcation.but I can trim the saddle easliy to fit the contour of the wing.I suspect it really wouldnt matter.as for power I am wondering if the new os 55 wouls be a good match.I sense the old engines were somewhat weaker not including say your rossi or webras..

If you're building the fuselage from plans, then just make the wing saddle in the fuse to fit the wing. A small mod, really. Then balance the airplane at the proper percentage of the wing's chord. If you're talking 3/8", then just use the plans. That's too little to worry about.

I'd build the fuselage with the leading edge per the plans, and move the former at the trailing edge aft so that it's in the proper relationship to the wing's trailing edge. Use some paper to make a template for the airfoil and cut it into the fuselage at the proper incidence angle.

thanks..I showed this to a very long time rc builder in the club and he laughed saying it wasnt an issue ..just cut the saddle to fit the wing and just make sure the incidence is set to the plan which is zero degrees.I thought so but what the heck.now I need to choose my engine.I was going with a supertigre SK 61 but its heavy and the prop sits way out from the nose.so Im amwondering if a size 50 or os 55 is good.

If I can put my two cents worth in. I had an original Kaos with a Blue Head Super Tigre in it. The original Kaos did not have a cowled engine too where the fuselage flowed into a spinner. MY prop stuck out probably a 1/2 inch in front of the fuse. Won't hurt a thing. I flew most of the time at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle unless doing loops or other types of vertical maneuvers. We are talking about a 40 year old engine. Most new 46-55 engines would exceed the hp of this engine. The engine size is your choice. Cut the fuse so the wing is at 0 incidence and half fun.

hi vintage..I agree that the first kaos didnt have a shaped cowl ..I suppose I could put the firewall back where I want it but thats not needed I guess.as for horsepower I concur that the older engines were not nearly as powerful as the 60's of now.Ifeel the supertigre is very heavy with lots of power but I am thinking a strong 50 would be suitable as well.this isnt going to do anything except sprt aerobatics. If I got deeper into pattern I might build an eyeball or a trouble maker..

I have probably flown a dozen or more Kaos's. Mine as well as other peoples. Tail heavy, nose heavy, they all flew. I flew one with a fox 60 on the nose, and that is a pretty heavy engine. Just get the CG within 3/8 " or so. The Kaos is probably one of the easiest planes I have flown. Very forgiving. Watch out for the eyeball. It's rudder is backwards from normal on inverted flight.I understand it was caused by the engine, wing and stab being inline.

Has anyone tried putting a hot .61 in a tower kaos? If so, what were the results? Can the air frame handle it? I have a kit built tower kaos with a picco 40 on a tune pipe. I clipped the wings and did a few other mods. I am very pleased how it flys, but I am looking for something a little faster. I was wondering what the wing span on a 60 tower kaos was?

What do you think Opa?Would an o.p.s. 60 on a Macs pipe be too much?

If your kaos is a tower 40 size with a clipped wing, It might fly with a 60 in it. It would land pretty hot. If it flys good now, why mess it up. If its a 60 size go for it. The 60 tower kaos is built solid. Its the same as the us60 without the top.

What i want to do is buy the Tower Kaos 40 a.r.f. and put the 60 in it. But i don't know if the airframe is strong enough.Has anyone had any luck going that route?

Take a look at the video in post #4 at the start of this thread. It is a built kit with mods. It also has a irvine 53 powering it.

I just received my tower 40 kaos. Since this is the only kaos arf, I thought I'd post the out of box weights.
fuse W/belly pan 350g
lt. wing w/aileron 278g
rt. wing w/aileron 270g
stab / elev's 54g
fin / rudd 26g
wheels 38g
tank 54g
spinner /inbag 30g
landing gear 78g
engine mount 66g
metal hdw /inbag 80g
plastic hdw/ inbag 20g
wing joiners 28g
ail. servo mount 4g
canopy / uncut 32g
pushrod hdw. /inbag 72g
wing bolt plate 4g
total 1484g
46ax 380
muff/bolts 114
total 494g
plane and 46ax total 1978g less radio

The covering looks good from 10ft. Needs alot of shrinking.
Wings are straight as are the stab and rudd.
The engine mount is heavy [metal].
Flight pack requires 4 servos, batt, receiver, switch
I think I can bring the weight down by getting some different hdw.
Manual says 5 to 6 lbs. I'll see if I can get less.

Here are a few pictures of my Tower Kaos 40.

Some of the changes that I made include:

- Clipped Wings
- Conventional Landing Gear
- Pull Pull Rutter
- Split Elevator
- Cowled in the Engine
- Ultra Coat covering

For power I use Picco 40 with a Mac Tune Pipe. Flies exceptionally. Unlimited vertical.

Thanks for looking.
