If I can get my hands on that magazine, I'll make ya a copy.
I didn't buy the Magic kit yet, instead i baught a Curare 60 after having a weird heavy crash with my Curare .40. Still can't explain why it happened ????
Anyway, the fuselange is back reinforced and glued. But still a heck of work on the wing.
Due to a coming move, most equipment is packed, so no building and repair yet. Once everything at the new place is in order, the glueing can continue, putting the .60 in order, and prolly buying the Magic as well, while the .20 .60 Curare will get retracts and flaps, as well as the magic

Hey Dave, can you send me some pics and movies once it flies ? And a comment how it flies ?
You will prolly notice that it kinda drifts through manoeuvres. In any case, that's how a Curare does . And I simply LOVE it

Status: offline 		I built a Hobby Barn Magic. A beautiful airplane to look at,but applying rudder was about the same as applying lots of down elevator! Tragic.

That sounds weird to me, as the wing and fuselange is actually, except the motor cowl, and how the engine is mounted the same, while the Curare is a dreamplane, that normally reacts like a dream
Although, before my last crash, I totally had no problems, making rolls, snappy rolls, and after taking it up into a small looping, it broke out, turning around it's axis, in fact all, could get it level, but noticed that then, when I used the elevatot, it tended to roll right, what ended up that i could not perform my last curve, didn't even could get my nose up, while giving complete roll left, combined with elevator up, it still ended up in roll right ???? Now, my RC system can not make any mixes ??????
Heck, even after the crash, every command was still in normal working condition.
If I now hear your story, I ask myself if this is not due to some error as well ?
Remember, I have seen a Magic performing very well at the end of the 70's, beginning '80's

If the magic flies half as well as my curare does I'll be happy. The Curare took a lot of careful trimming with tip weight to get bunts and loops on track but once done it flies as straight as a die. The other major tweek that helped was to increase wing incidence to make dives stay straight down (it used to pull up towards the canopy). Ive noticed around 50% of the trim charts that are available on the net suggest doing the opposite.

Actually my magic uses my original balsa curare wing (I built a foam one for the curare after i smashed it but Ive since repaired the original wing). Its slightly different to the magic being narrower at the root but what the heck. I am going to modify the tips to match the magic as its got an angled underside for some reason.

Keep me posted, as somethings thrives me to the 'must have' feeling. I keep having warm feelings towards the whole Curare range, have them now , the Magic, another patternship that looks kinda equal to the Magic, a big pylon ( speed Cobra ) and.... a Graupner Piper Cherokee they used to have a .61 version.... anyway, I'll be having them sooner or later .

But would be great to get the magic fly on rails as well, don't you think ?

For all the Curare lovers. I can get my hands on new Curare .20 and Curare .60 kits.
The .20 has foam wings, and fiber fuselange, and I'm waiting on the .60 kit to see how that will be build.
I also have the original Mk. Curare .40 (or Minare some say ) plans...

Status: offline 		My first pattern plane. A hobby barn Magic. I remember waiting months for it to arrive, with numerous calls that it would be sent out this week
Mine had a different lower engine cowl than the one pictured. More of a complete mold around the lower front of the plane as I remember. The wing sheeting was nice as well. Full 12 inch wide sheets of balsa. Three pieces lap jointed and glued to make a 12 inch wide piece.

Mine was a beauty all hand rubbed laquer but weighed a ton. Still it flew well at speed. Pretty nice in the rolling maneuvers. The odd behavior with rudder was with extreme rudder throws on mine. Knife edge was fine unless you added too much. Then it did some weird stuff.

Status: offline 		I was posting in a curare thread but just found this one. I was given this aircraft complete. Is is a "magic"? I' am unsure due to the tail plane and wing tips.

Status: online 		Fuselage is a Magic for sure. Wing/stab on the Magic was double taper if I recall which does not seem to be the case here although the angle of the photo is not the best to determine. Could be a Saphir wing but most likely some other wing/stab with the tips chopped to look like the Saphir. I remember reading that those angled tips were designed to help with snaps but did not really work. Anyone else?

Status: offline 		Here is a shot of the wing if it will help. Some new light on this one. The kit was purchased from Airsail NZ in the 80's. It is not the original wing but was built to the plans minus flaps. The kit was also referred to a "Magic" and/or Flyingfish.

Status: offline 		Looks like a Magic fuselage but definately not Magic wings. Someone said `Saphir' wing, and it probably is. Magic wing was quite different to Curare ditto. I have a small plan somewhere...

The Magic was a further development of the Curare, and was flown by Hanno Prettner, the designer to do the same a the Curare, which was a RC1 patternflyer. The Magic was devellopped in order to get better aerodynamics.
I have seen the Curare 40, Curare 60, the Magic, as well as an Arrow (from W. Matt Austria ), as well as some American models, like the Dirty birdy.
But the Curares, Magic and Arrow ruled ( could be the pilotting as well ofcourse )
