Mike how did you make that neat backwards lettering on the Zeque? Where can I buy some? Just kidding. They do have a remarkably similar profile.
PS- I loved my old Brushfire. Most neutral plane I ever flew and probably started the widebody craze 20 years earlier.

Just my 0.02$: it is also notable how different colouring makes a plane look completely different. I remember seeing an all-white Impact and compared it to the blue-white-and-yellow-stripes colour scheme. Almost a different aircraft. This explains why Mike's profiles look similar.

-Fabrizio

My point is simple Mike, these are pattern planes. They all fit into a basic set of rules, 2M x 2M, must be capable of doing the current schedules, weight less than 11 lbs (ahem...), blah blah blah. They all look the same! It's the subtle differences (noticed only by the eyes of 'designers' of course) that make each plane unique and why some people like certain designs over others. Black out an Ultra Sport and throw it up next to the others... Strikingly similar? Hmm.

My commentary was intended to point out that nothing anyone is doing is earth shattering, or even that new. Just different variations on a theme. It's these subtle variations in these tricked out Japanese designs that I really like.

And ual - if you run across a brushfire anywhere, let me know! I'd love to get my hands on one of those old birds.

Enjoy!

Nahh I got your point Joe, I was just trying to illustrate (literally) mine.

Now if I had a side on shot of a Smaragd, I'd put it up there and you'd really see a noticable difference. (That thing is butt ugly IMHO).

I LOVE the Japanese planes, and I'm also a big fan of Byan Hebert's planes, which could be argued that he follows a similar style as well.

There's not much we can do, besides make a biplane (been done) or a canard (which may not be the best at FAI pattern). I'm not seeing a flying wing design doing very well either...

Pusher pattern plane?

um, ooh I know! A twin pattern plane!

We could call it a Duellist! hehe.

Lots of "funky" ideas have come and gone, but as I see it, this is part of the appeal of Pattern, everyone's gotta be willing to try new things, and in international competition, any edge you can get, is a good one.

I like the BM for it's simple lines, it's minimal styling, and zeque for it's seemingly infinite detail.

Joe,

All ya gotta do is ask... Contact Dan at Carolina Custom Aircraft

carolinaaircraft@earthlink.net

He kits a variety of vintage pattern planes (fiberglass fuse/foam core wings) including the Brushfire, the T2A, Intruder and others. I have his brochure in electronic form if you want it, PM me with an e-mail or contact Dan and he can send it to you. I have not bought one of his kits (yet), but have heard nothing but superlatives about the quality of his work. Prices are quite reasonable, too.

Hey something just dawned on me. With many of the pattern planes selling for amounts near $3000 wouldn't you think that more would be entering the marketplace? Shouldn't this be enough cash to intice some new planes? I can see that building planes for $1000 would cause economic issues but their should be plenty of profit in these newly priced generation of planes to make it viable from a business aspect. Just a thought. -----Mike

There's a lot more to it Mike, but yes, things are moving in that direction from a number of US sources. Stay tuned.....

I'm surprised nobody is excited about the HiMax counterrotating electric motor. No side thrust issues. . . .

Does anybody know how Oxai constructs the Zeque and what materials are used? Is it foam core wing, balsa sheeted, glassed and painted? Is the fuse primarily composite, or is it built-up, or both? I would appreciate any details on how the original flies or how the Oxai versions fly.

Thanks,

David

Zeque's wing and stabilizer use foam inside cover balsa sheet out siad, fuse up part from pull line use fabeglass-balsa sheet-fabeglass sandwich constructs, fuse down part full blasa constructs.

I would think the more important component is how many customers are there out there that want a $3000 airframe.

So what is OXAI doing, painting and covering only?

OXAI cooperate with S2pro Mr. Suzuki this time, OXAI's Zeque different Japan's Zeque, O's Zeque have all logical new constructs design and fuse material without appearance.

I think you'd be suprised. They are there. Their time is much more important than money, and they don't mind spending big to get something nice. It's thier choice and there's nothing wrong with it. If I had to choose a plane in this category, the Zeque would be the one, hands down. They don't seem to care much for our wood roaches though

However I am also interested to see the new ZN Integral up close.

Well, the Zeque certainly is a pretty plane. I wish I could justify the cost something like that, but I just switched over to all electric powered planes and my modeling fund is pretty well taped.

Thanks Mark! I've been feeling nostalgic lately... I think I need an entire fleet of 70's & 80's pattern ships.

And since the price point topic has been brought up... I think I'm turning into one of those people who is willing to pay $3k for a plane ;-) Time is quickly becoming more valuable than money lately.
