The Quadstar is a multi-purpose plane. In addition to a 360 degree pan and tilt camera platform, it's a truck .

Here are some pics and video from this morning. We were dropping the Estes Space Ship One rocket that has been modified for RC, it glides down under control (rocket or brushless pusher powered maybe in the future). The videos are not that great as we were using a 10mW transmitter, we need to play with antenna position and such as we've gotten much better range from it before. There is a lot of gear on the Quadstar that could be helping to interfere with the signal. Drop 3 would have been the best as the camera was repositioned but got a lot of interference right when SS1 was dropped. Will try again. Anyway, take a look...

Whog,
that's pretty cool. I cannot wait to see a drop with a rocket motor in it !!! Are you planning on having a camera on both craft at some point? I now see how the release works, looks like you have a reliable design. Do you have any other foam objects that you are working on that can be dropped or launched ? How much will the Quadstar lift. All the video so far looks like it climbs quickly with any load.

Ive always wanted to drop a small glider and see the mothership as it falls, then tilt forward and catch the landing, no vibes of course, no motor means no vibes!

OK, I sent them a link to yesterdays drops (Aug 20th) which I added to the very first post above. We'll see if anybody responds but their website says don't expect a reply.

Is the SS1 the 1:15 scale from Estes?

Yes, it's the larger Estes rocket (E motor size).

Where did you have the balance point on th SS1? Looks like a complicated platform to get rght.

MAC (Mean Aerodynamic Chord) was calculated for the wing and SS1 was balanced at 30% of the chord from the leading edge on the MAC.
