I went up town to the surplus store in town this afternoon to get a arbor press.

They had 24 new Echo 2400 short blocks for $19.95 each in the box.

No flywheel or coil

No muffler

No carb or carb insulator.

W8ye,
You ought to buy a bunch and offer them on RCU or Ebay for a small profit. I'm sure that there are many in this forum who would like to get one or two. Thay make nice EI engines.

They had one out of the box up on top of the stack. It was just beautiful.

I have a 2400 blower. Might ought to get one for some spare parts?

I guess I need to run to the store and check out the number again to see if I can find another number?

The short block for most 2400's is part number SB1027 except the blower which is SB1024

The guys that have already ordered them from the store should have them soon.

I'm hoping these individuals will elaborate.

Are these the same 23.6cc engines talked about on other past threads that have a lot of HP for their cc's? I remember a couple guys (AV8R ??? & Keith???) saying the older ones were higher HP that the newer Echo's of similar displacement. Something to do with twin rings and large transfer ports.

Thanks,
Doug

Here's the parts catalog....

http://www.echo-usa.com/oot/docs/HC24002410T1_030502.pdf

The 2400's are the 23.6 engines

The insulator for the carb is #13001742031
Gaskets only come in a gasket set #88900008460

The differences in the carb area between early and late ones was that it had a different air cleaner. There is only one insulator.

In the photo is, I think, what Kieth had to say in a previous post in another thread.

Hello, I ordered two of the short bolcks, I didn't think to ask if they had any flywheels or coils. If you do go by the store again would you ask if they might. If not maybe they could check with thier supplier. In any case I want to think you for the heads up.

Thanks George

Hi, My new short blocks arrived yesterday, They are little jewels. Now I must start rounding up parts to make proper aircraft engines out of them. Any and all hints and suggestions will be appreciated. Also any pointers to parts suppliers. Need mufflers, prop adapters, washers & nuts or bolts. By the way these have L/H threads on both ends of the crank.

Hi Capt. I was looking at my Mb 290 this morning and it looks like an exact copy of the echo. My blower is still on tact so I could not compare closely. If you have your Mc out of the blower you might compare. Maybe there is a supply of parts, If you can find any old or broken Mc. I am sure there are tap and dies for L/H threads. I dont know the thread size on the cranks yet.

Later Geroge

UPDATE: Did a better check. The Mb290 may be close to the Echo. Not sure they would share internal parts or crank. Carb and exhaust may work. Maybe flywheel. Looks like I am going to have to take the Mb290 blower apart and see. Send me a photo of your Echo if you can.... Please. Capt,n
