this has been a great charger, but It has some problems.

Anybody have an idea where I can get in touch with the
builder. I need a schematic in order to help me fix this jewel.

I have one of these. It's hanging in there. I don't think the schematics are readily available. If you find a set, I sure would like to see them as well.

I think you can still get units repaired by Sam Capri. His repair jobs are apparently coordinated by this hobby shop:

Model Land Ltd
3409A 26 Ave S.W.
Calgary, Alberta
T3E 0N3
Canada

Phone: (403) 249-1661 or Fax: (403) 246-1260

Good Luck,
Moses

Are the two of you talking about the charger that was sold many years ago? (were you into r/c cars then?) If so I too have one of these units that has always acted a little weird, sometimes stopping in the middle of a charge and goes back to the main menu. What kind of problems have you had?

Thanks,
Curt

Yep, I used to be into RC cars back in the mid 80's early 90's. I still have some RC car stuff around. The Victor was/is a superb charger. It's a handy thing to have around.

When I turn mine on, sometimes it powers up and then immediately shuts off. Only happens once every 20 times or so. Has not happened in a while. Does not seem to be getting worse. I may get mine fixed if it becomes a problem. Kind of hard to justify a large repair cost given the capabilities and relative low cost of some of the new chargers (SuperNova, Super Turbo, Einstein ...).

Moses

Edit: I also have the Victor IQ Power-1 DC power supply (I think it's something like 10-12 amps) - still working.

Hello moses,,

I want to know if maybe your HI- IQ is later than mine. Is yours
patented? My says pending. If yours has a patent number I would like to get that number. I don't know where I would send
this charger to have it fixed. Anybody got an idea?

Thanks Tim

Hi Curt, My charger does not sense voltage and will not start charging.

Does your charger have a patent number?

Thanks Tim

Mine does not say patent pending (and it does not have a patent number). One of the people at Victor Engineering was apparently named Vic Kmosek. I did a quick patent search (www.uspto.gov) for patents with Kmosek as the inventor. I also looked for "victor engineering" as the assignee - nothing came up. Not sure the patent issued - could be hard to find in the millions of issued patents without knowing the name of the inventor or title of the application or some other key word.

Moses

edit: hobbykid - mine is a Hi IQ SR unit. I bought it used in the early 90s (it was old then).

I haver the box and paperwork that came with mine. I think
somewhere ni the paper work it pat pending. I know there is a later model than the one I have. Mine chargers up to 8 cells.
later version would charge up to 20, I think.

Hey moses, thanks for doing the pat. search. I'll drag my paper work out tomorrow and maybe come up with some more info.

Later, TIm

Hey Tim,
Mine does not have a patent # either! Have you called the guy in Canada to see if he is able to fix them?

Have you guys had any luck in finding a chematic for the victor or someone to fix them. I have a broken one also. I found a guy in australia that says he can fix them but I haven't heard back from him in a while. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the website for Sam's Workbench - see also post #2.

http://www3.telus.net/capris/

This site is hard to find since it moved and all of the search engines point to the old address (which does not work).

This website seems to be the last vestige of information on the Victor chargers. Probably only a handful of people left that really know anything about the internal workings of these chargers.

Do you have contact info for Sam? I see lots of info on the webpage but nothing pointing to an email address.

I have two of these units, one is the multiplexer for cell grading. I also have the Super Tuner option, the Trac Pac and more. Looking to upgrade the software.

Or is the info for Model Land, current?

Thanks
