If you are going to go for the Photoshop trial, I would suggest the Gimp. Open source and free!!

Unless you use every last function in Photoshop, the Gimp will be way more than adequate.

Easier way to get it is from here:

I use paint.net. I have had OK luck with it, but am just starting out. It is on download.com.

Is there some way to decrease the file size of a jpg from my digital camera?
The CD software that came with the camera I cant use because it is not compatible with Win 2000
I use a little card reader to transfer the photos which works fine but all photos are 700k or more
I tried various methods and regardless if I crop the picture, the file size stays the same
There is nothing in the camera menu to decrease the resolution.

What to do?

Look at PICASA, mentioned earlier in the thread. It should work on Win2000 fine and lets you resize the photos, changing the file size at the same time. Also, look to change the quality of the picture, lower quality means lower file size. Experiment to see what works for you.
