the fans work fine off 7.2v (mines connected straight to the on/off switch)

Sorry Wozwasnt the battery will power a normal CPU fan? should i get a bigger battery something like a 3400 or bigger still 7.2v. I will find a small CPU fan tomorrow, do you think one from a laptop would be ok?

If you're adding metal bits then you'll need a bigger battery (mines got a 3700 in it). I used a 12v CPU cooling fan (40mm I think), it runs slower on 7.2v but it's enough to keep things cool.

i got an electronics guy at where i work to look at it, he commented on how poorly designed the circuit board was, 'typical Chinese rubbish' was he exact words. Any how he soldered the wires to the board, he also come up with the idea of cutting a piece of aluminum about 3mm thick that he fitted into the bottom of the tank, then put some super glue onto the heat sink of the board, then installed the board, he said the alloy would absorb extra heat. He then asked me if i had any spare cpu fans, i came up with a fan from a Intel P4 cpu, its a genuine heatsink and fan setup, we removed the fan and it sits perfectly onto of the main board, there are two plastic spacers built into the moulding of the fan housing, perfect, it sits about 4mm off the board, i did have to put a bit of tape to hold one wire down, but it all looks very proffesional, he said it would help greatly, and soldered it onto the main board so when i switch on, the fan starts. Im sorry i didnt take any photos, but if anyone knows computers, they will know what a P4 fan looks like. The only problem we came accross is when the gun is elevated high and you turn the turret to the right (looking from back of tank) and then back left, it sometimes gets stuck, its the gun firing motor that is catching the top of the fan, just lowering the gun slightly and it passes over it no problems. A small price to pay if its going to keep the circiuts from blowing. Oh you cant hear the fan running either unless you put your ear right next to the tank.

ran the tank till that battery went flat (20mins maybe more i wasn't counting just having fun) now im gonna get a 4300 battery....

Sounds like overkill... also, I've be very careful with your tank now that the board is sitting on a piece of alum, jar it and the superglue will happily give way, leading to a shorted circuit board.

EDIT: also, if it interferes with rotation/elevation, it might snag, knock the fan/circuit board down only the extra cooling plate, causing a short never take chances, always ensure the board is safe

Hi the piece of alloy is glued to the heat sink of the circuit board, its been shaped in a way that it cant move in any direction, plus the board is screwed down in 2 places, trust me, the alloy plate is going no where. Also the fan housing and fan are plastic so there shouldn't be any fear of it earthing on the board, plus the fact that the fan housing is made of hard plastic and is supported on 4 posts, the elevation motor isn't going to break it, the 4 plastic posts on the underside of the fan housing its probably stronger than the tank !!!! if you have seen a Pentium 4 proper Intel CPU fan, you will see what i mean. I'm going to get a couple more battery's now, and run the tank for as long as possible, I'm interested how long the circuit board should last with these mods. The guy who made it all up seems to think it should last, especially longer than 20minites as the first one did !! If i ever take the tank apart again i will take some photos, the only reason i didn't is because i took it in to work for the repairs and didn't have a camera at hand.

It will last. Simply adding extra heat sinks to the RX 13 will make them bullet proof with stock motors.

thanks YHR i hope so still haven't told the wife how much i paid for it LOL.....she thinks it cost £29.99 she said it was a waste of money at that price. Men and toys........its GREAT!!! hahahaha now i shall use it for a while then start customizing it, have you seen that rust you can buy to put on plastic? have a look

http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?products_id=435

this is where i got the tank from the guy is very good, although he didn't want to give me my cash back, but he has sort me out with the parts i needed.

Just don't go overboard with rust as tanks aren't rusty when in use - tanks in museums are rusty after years of being stationary and neglected. Stick with the exposed bare metal parts: spare tracks, exhausts etc. Tracks shouldnt be rusty, more steel + mud looking.

With some cheap red-brown, orange and black paint (I use Tamiya acrylics, in the small jars) and some salt/baking soda for texture), you can get some excellent looking rust effects without spending big dollars on "instant rust" type products.

Hi all.

New here on the forum, I'm from Sweden.
I have a Tiger 1, non smok n' sound. 3.1 metal gearbox and 3000mAh acc, other than that it's all standard. Will make a huge upgrade soon, all metal upgrades, s&s and some other small details. Maybe I should take a picture some day?

I am aiming for a ca 1944 Tiger.

I have lost the antenna, so my range is close to 5m. I will search the forum for what to do. I am thinking of a internal antenna.

Cheers/ Gabe

You could do that, but in the meantime you could probably make a quite satisfactory antenna out of stainless steel spring wire, or piano wire of the proper gauge. It should not be too difficult to do, the hardest part would probably be making the tightly wound little coil at the base end, and if my calculations are right, the whole thing stretched out would need to be about 16 in. long, the antenna minus the coils is about 13 inches in length, and the coil adds about another 3 in. as best I can estimate.
