Here are pictures of the mounting blocks for the cowl. They're a bit hard to see since I've already fireproofed the firewall with epoxy tinted black. I still need to add another coat of black enamel paint.

Here is the plane after everything has been filled and sanded

And another view.

Heres the color scheme I've been thinking about. I know it will be a little bit difficult but I'm going to take my time and try to make it look nice. I'm going to substitue white for the yellow on this plane, my trainer is yellow and I want to switch it up a little bit.

Color Scheme

Looks good. I'm going to try and put mine in the air on Sunday. I did all the final tweaks to the radio, linkage and engine this past weekend. That covering scheme should look nice. I always like having yellow on an airplane, it's easy to see under a lot of different conditions.

I finally got mine in the air this morning. It lifted right off and only need a little down trim. The only thing that I'm not happy with is the landing gear. First, it's too short; you can hardly roll the plane around on the gorund by hand without hitting the prop. Second, it bends way too easily. My old ARF version was the same way. I think that I might have to order some better gear like you did.

I've started the covering process. Here are all of the control surfaces with their covering applied.

I'm going to cover the fuse and tailfeathers as a unit instead of covering them seperately then gluing them together. Here I'm gluing the horizontal stab to the fuse after measuring to make sure everything is straight.

I know it's tempting to get the iron out before the airframe is complete but you'd be better to stop covering and wait...

This way you can finish the airframe, install the engine, radio gear etc... and do a full balance.

By balancing before you cover it allows you the luxary of being able to add weight where ever you want. That's my theory anyway...

Looking good all the same!

I've been busy lately so work on the SSE has slowed quite a bit. I have gotten the tail wires and gear mounted. I'm in the process of maching everything up for balancing. Here's the how it looks so far.

Looks great! Nothing like a framed up plane to stimulate the artistic design senses. Sort of like a blank canvas at this point. Have a covering scheme in mind?

Yes, check out the link in post 52. I think it'll be a little ambitious for my second covering job but I'm willing to take my time.

Got everything balanced last night. I hung the plane with some fishing line tied to the crankshaft and the rudder - balanced perfectly no weight needed there. Using my trusty inded fingers I then did my fore/aft balance. Again balanced perfectly on the spar - nice not to have to add any dead weight. Going to cover the bottoms of the wings tonight and then onto the fuse this week. I'll leave the tops of the wings and the horizontal stab for later this week since that'll be the more complicated part. I'm planning on making a pattern and using it to cut the curves on my 2 colors of ultracoat then joining them into one piece off the plane on a large piece of glass. We'll see how it goes.

I got the hatch cover and the underside of the wings covered tonight. I'm going to wait to put the heat gun to them until I have the top side of the wings covered too thus the wrinkles.

Over the last few days I've gotten the vertical stab, underside of the horizontal stab, and the majority of the fuse covered. I need to make a run to the LHS to pick up some more ultracote so I can finish the rest of the covering. I'm also trying to figure out how I want to cover the front of the fuse.
