I dont know where you lost me?.......

I did a quick overview on the manual to my Cane XP, and found a BIG no no in there. To stall the engine, you guys, or the manufacture, says to PINCH THE FUEL LINE. Doing so will cause the engine to run lean, thus killing it. It will also cause premature wear, and in some cases, lead to broken engine parts from stopping the engine that way.
NEVER push your finger into the air filter. You force dirt and whatever is ON the filter into the engine! NEVER plug the exhaust, you force so much fuel into the engine, thus causing it to lock up. You can severely damage it that way

ORIGINAL: Kemo

Its common sense! Think about how many times you pinch it... the engine revs up and dies. Thats the WORST possible way to stop the engine. Next to it, is plugging the exhaust AND air filter. Plugging exhaust forces fuel into the engine, thus killing it (excess pressure can and will cause parts to fail). Doing so to the filter forces foreign objects into the engine.

Come on, common sense! The next best thing to do is to loosen the glow plug to lose compression.

here is the thing with pinching the fuel line... if the engine doesn't wind up from leaning it, you aren't damaging the engine. But if it is revving up, you run into your risk for damage to internals of the engine.

see where i'm coming from?

ok i didn't know u were actually confused or if you were just posting to be a dink. Which part are you lost at and i'll explain.

The whole intention of this thread was to get them to remove that method from the manual. I looked all over for manuals and have not found one that tells you how to shut it down. BUT, i did find it in older versions (engien manuals)... why? because the company has to take warranty on something they goofed up on, like saying to use vegetable oil on your air filter. I laugh at the person who put that on the redcat site.

I think I have a pretty simple solution to this dilemma. Just never let your engine die on you. I say we nitro 24/7. Really it's a win win situation. Your engines happy and so are you.
I mean sure you'll lose your job and most likely any friends and/or family you may have. But in the long run it's worth it. To be honest that's what I was doing for the last few weeks. Finally I just passed out and ran my buggy into a poor little dog, killing it instantly on impact. Now i'm back here recovering and taking care of my malnourished body.

But anyways, I can see all sides of this one. Like someone mentioned before, stopping your engine in pretty much anyway is going to be 'bad' for it. Really what it boils down to is what you can reason out to be the best method for yourself. So, do what you think may be best, take what you want from this thread. If you decide to change the way you stop the little beast than good for you. If you keep on doing the same old thing you always do, awesome. Now excuse me I have to go drink a cup of nitro fuel to ween myself off the stuff.

well ya'll can argue with my dvd and rc nitro. They state all the ways you can stop an engine, but the safest way for you and your engine, is to bump the flywheel.

I'm out, i have a race to tend to and x games to prepare for next weekend... doing a presentation for redcat racing, sts, and a rc car club. on top of that, i'm registered to race the r/c x games.

4th in the feature race . That was ST though, no engine in my huricane just yet. I took a poll at the races to justify what I stand behind, it goes as follows.

Pinchers= 20%
Stinger pluggers = 35%
Bumpers = 55%

What really got me was how many people tune with a radio. That, and on the drivers stand... how many people dont charge before a main! it gets annoying hearing a beep over and over from a dying set of batteries in a radio.

This is how i stop mine....

Doesn't make for a long engine life but it gets the job done.

I have tried all of the other methods, and so far, this surpasses everything else i've tried.

I honestly do not see the big deal. You stop the car the way you want to stop it.

Kemo, I don't know if you're refering to all cars, or just the redcats with this one, but I agree with popper and blue, I guess it all comes down to opinion (and we all know what they say about opinions)...everyone does what they think is best...But, in both my Traxxas and my Himoto manuals, they say to pinch the fuel line to shut it down and to use filter oil (such as the traxxas...in the traxxas manual), but say you can use vegetable oil...

Alright lets turn this sucker around. Instead of stopping the engine, let me ask you all, what glow plug charger do you use to start the thing?
I've been having a little bad luck with glow chargers as of late. My first one that came with the little start up kit is broken. I was kinda expecting that thing to die pretty soon anyways so no big surprise. I went to the lhs and bought a metered rechargeable one that you turn to lock it on the plug. Well today when I was using it I guess I underestimated my massive strength and turned the thing a bit too hard and it broke. Right now it's really really hot and I think it may blow up at any moment... I have it sitting in a seperate box just in case.
I was thinking about just getting the kind where you drop a c or d battery into it. My only question is how long do those batteries usually last before dying? I can deal with having to switch it out once every gallon of fuel or so, but every few tanks would be a bit much. Also, what do you guys prefer, the the kind that lock on with the sleeve or the twist and lock?
The picture is of the one I bought. I think i'm going to stick with the all metal ones from now on. I'm beginning to hate anything and everything plastic.

Awesome, I saw that at the hobby shop but didn't get it because it didn't have a meter. I'm gonna try to return the one I have now and I'll go pick that up and give it a 'shot' (haha)

mine... somethin team associated

Here is a tip for those of you who have stick packs layin around that aren't as great as they used to be. Each stick pack provides 6 batteries to use in ur glow starter. This is where my tower 1500 packs have come in handy.

I got the same one as Eddie. I've had no problems and I think it's got a 1 yr warrenty. The only thing is when you put it on and off be careful. New it would stay on by itself but after a certain 13yr old with little paticence got to it it doesn't have the same grip on the glow plug it once had.! It still works great though.

hmm, i haven't used the sealed ones just due to the fact that the cell goes bad after time. I tried telling my buddy that, he's been through about half a dozen dubros. I've been on the same one i've had since, forever.
