I am new to electric helis, can some one please suggest a good but not that expensive charger to charge LIpo batteries? Other than Hobbico accu cycle elite and Triton. Can i use Quick Field Charger MK2 LiPo as Lipos do not have memory problem like nicds? Or do i need a computerised charger?

Please advise.

Thanks

If single output is fine for your need, you can try the Pro Peak Prodigy II.
I've been selling this charger to most local heli customers. Yes, I do carry the TP, Align, and many other chargers. For $70, Prodigy II does a wonderful job. Only problem is that you will need a separate balancer.
Prodigy II is a copy of Multiplex LN5014 charger. Identical Specifications. Just cheaper.

A few local guys and I are charging the TP2100 3S Pro packs at 2.5C with this charger, so far so good. Just make sure you are balancing the pack sometimes.

Hope this helps,

Does Hobbico accu cycle elite does balancing? Which is a economical balancer charger for Lipos. I have Thunder power 2100mah Lipo battery.

I forgot to tell you that you can use the Quick Field charger to charge the pack. Just get a balancer to balance the pack somtime. You don't have to use TP although I use it. Blinky is about half the price of TP205.

No, the AccuCycle Elite does not do the balancing.
there are several balancing chargers in the market. Align has one but that only has 1 amp output, so it takes nearly 2 hours to charge 2100. FMA cell pro is also a balance charger, but not really sure.
I think Align and FMA are the most economical balancer/charger. All of them have pros and cons.
I wish the TP comes out with 1 unit that includes both charger and balancer together.

However, balancing while charging takes longer time. Thus, I balance the pack before charging (TP205 or 210). Charge the pack, then check the balance to make sure every cells are taking the charge correctly.
If you have to balance again after charging, one or more cells have higher/lower charge/discharge ability which is not very good. <<< Balancer/charger is good on this case.

Hope this helps,

Thanks PatternFly,/

Does Thunder power 2100mah Lipo battery charge with Hobbico quick field charger because i remember reading some where that this charger cannot charger higher mah Li-Po packs. Can Hobbico Accu cycle elite handle 2100mah lipos?

Based on the manual of the Quick Field Charger MK II, it should charge the pack at 1Amp. I don't see any problem for the charger to work. I don't think there is any Li-po manufacturer certifying their packs for UL1642. If there was/are any, I don't know. The charger has safety timer set for 180 minutes for Lithum batteries. That is within the capacity of the TP2100 which will be fully charged within 120 minutes.

Charging lipo at higher than the 1C is not recommended for safety reason.

That charger doesn't display mah put back into the pack, so you are guessing if you are over-discharging the pack.

zsultan,

The DN Power Lipo charger/balancer works very nicely. You can get it in a combo with two, 2150mah batteries for I think $129 at Readyheli.com. I recently purchased this combo and am very happy with it.

Chargers can be expensive. My thought is I'd start out with one less battery pack and spend the money on a good charge. I bought the Ice charger...extremely full-featured and charges all battery types.

You'll need a DC power supply for this (and just about every charger). I use one from radio shack...

ptarp,

No, it doesn't. But, it's a good starter charger/balancer combo, and a great deal.
