You might be able to figure it out, but honestly it seems like the a123 charger does the best job at charging a123 packs. It balances the cells while it charges and is specifically programmed to charge this type of cell. These do not quite work like regular lithium cells. So it's up to you, but you'll probably have the best luck with the a123 charger.

ho0joker TME has a new charger that does A123 cells called the Xtrema. There was a very nice review in FLY RC magazine. It does up to 10s packs.

I'm looking at getting a few packs for my 1/10 Tamiya TA05 and my Kyosho Half 8 ST. What would you recommend? The Tamiya is a 27 turn stock motor with a GT7 esc. I sometimes swap it with my Mamba Max 4600. The H8 runs a Mamba 6800. Let me know what you think.

It appears that you haven't answered the question about cell tabs yet. One or two?
I have some outrunner motors that may be pushed too hard at 13.2 V, so need to build three cell packs.
Any more info re O/Seas shipments yet?
Any more info about SPT yet? Seems to be a little conflict about usage here.

Cheers,

Hello Tucker,

I understand what you are asking now. The cells have two tabs, One per side. I can see where the website was misleading. I have changed it to be clearer. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Chuck,

Thanks for checking in.

Brian

Brian, in your last response to me, you said, "The cells have two tabs, One per side."

By "one per side" do you mean one on each end?

If your answer is yes, this is my last question regarding theses cells and I can go ahead with an order.

Bob

Hi Brian,

I wonder if those packs need balancing on every charging.

Regards
Adam

I doubt they NEED it, but the a123 charger automatically balances them if they need balancing. So don't worry about balancing, it will be done for you.

I'm not sure about how the system works. I'm totally lost on the balancing the battery during charging. Does the 123 system come with everything it needs to charge the battery and maintain it? How do you balance the battery? I want to get two 2s2p 4600 for my XXX-T & XXX-4. Will I have a problem fitting them in my r/c vehicles? There are about 6 guys at my track that are running the Li-po batteries by Team Orion(4600) and I would like to use something different. They are running brushless as I am, but no Li-po for me so I need something to keep up. After 3 min with my 3600 nimh my peak is gone. They can run 10 mins and there peak hasn't even dropped. Some of them run the Team Orion Li-po pack for 2 qualifiers and the A-main without recharging the pack. I need that kind of power and run time. Does the A123 2s2p 4600 able to do that cause if so I'll be getting me a system as long as it fits my XXX-T & XXX-4. Other wise I guess I'll have to join the band wagon and go Team Orion Li-po.
