The per cell number does not change, but the number for a two cell pack becomes 16 milli-ohms total internal resistance. Neglecting any interconnect resistance which should be minimal.


Thanks Red, I am curious how they put out so much power. I have been using a Hangtime Hobbies FAUP1950 battery which is advertised at 4 milli-ohms resistance. Would a two cell at 16 milli ohms have less ability to deliver power than a 5 cell nimh battery? I am building a two cell pack for a 30% airplane and want to be sure that I can deliver ample power source.

I just sent him an email. Thanks. I use them on my hybrid electric bike. I fried one last year when I got some wires crossed. I fried another this winter when a downpour shorted out something on my electric bike, and this last on was from showing off. I only had two batteries installed in series for 72 volts. Usually I have four (two packs in series hooked in parallel). I gunned the throttle to do a wheely and poof.

I have an ARX540 electric dirtbike (I have the first one in the USA) and I'm having trouble finding a battery pack for it.... the battery area is 70mm x 55mm x 53mm... the bike loves to work with 11.1V and a 5400KV motor... I'm using a Mamba Max 5700 with mine... it seems that size-wise, the 9.9V 2300 seems to be a perfect fit, and it's enough voltage to be more than the starting voltage of 7.4V (which is kinda slow) and the 11.1V that the prototypes ran... Will I have any issues powering my Mamba Max system with these batteries?... Looking to make a puurchase VERY soon so I need an answer ASAP... and do I really need the charger and/or the turbo? (I have several LiPo chargers but I'm not opposed to buying the A123 charger)

We have put together a two cell pack for 6.6 v. Is there a way of testing the capacity of the battery pack? Do we charge to 6.6v then cycle to 4 v to see what mAh comes out/goes back in? So far using a Triton Charger on it.

Status: offline 		Is there any way to put a different balancing connector on the Sonic Charger? I bought a Dewalt pack and assembled those cells into two 2s packs and two 3s packs. I just bought a hypersonic charger off Ebay, and I want to use the balancing feature of it, but I don't have an anderson balancing connector. I know that it is possible to buy them on the A123racing website, but I would rather just run up to Radio Shack and get a connector there or something local. Is there a way that I could just cut off the current connector and put my own on it?

Status: offline 		I just use a standard JR/Hitec S servo connector.

For 2 cell pack, remove the outer pins and use the center pin.

For 3 cell pack, remove the center pin and use the outer pins, the error light will flash if the connector needs to be flipped over. Mark the color of the proper orientation and you're good to go.

Works for me (so far)....

Status: offline 		The Sonic charger has a balancing port w/ 3 pins.

I think the charger only works with the balancing tap inserted into the port. Otherwise, the error light blinks and I assume charging does not take place. I bought a couple of 2 cell packs from A123 Racing and they had a balancing tap with only 1 wire and it went into the center pin of the connector. (presuming the tap is from the center node).

I made a 3S pack from some Dewalt pack cells and the Sonic charger did not work until I put in the balancing taps from the 2 nodes. I tried to buy some balancing taps from A123 Racing but never got a reply to my phone message. But the servo connector fits and I've got plenty of those laying around so I'm fine with that.

Status: offline 		I have read this entire thread and am interested in actually converting as many of my planes over to these batteries but wonder what ever happend to the manufacturer rep who was candidly answering questions? Are they too busy for us? Before any of you bust my chops why I don't just call them.....got too much on my plate and prefer to read my email at any point in a 24 hour period, which is why I am here. These RCU forums can really be helpful.

Oh well, too many bigger fish in the pond. Maybe I am spoiled by those manufacturers who give "Customer Support" in the interest of furthering their product.

Status: offline 		Understand that the hobby market isn't even a blip on the radar at A123. If the technology is as good as claimed, and I have nothing to date with my use of it to believe otherwise, they have their hands full serving consumer and commercial accounts. It the technology takes off for EV use and expands more in the power tool market we will be lucky to still be able to buy DeWalt packs on e-Bay.

I was speaking with the owner of TBM yesterday and asked him his take on the 123 batteries. He basically said that nobody had sent him any to review and he was happy with what he had to sell. The cutting edge is defined.

I guess whey you are serving multi billion dollar military contractors and similar accounts you are good to go.

Status: offline 		Good day. I've been a glow flyer for years but got swept away with the convenience of e-flight. I'm in the process of converting the hangar. I have a couple of DeWalt packs coming. I've made up my own NiMh and NiCd packs forever so assembling a 123 pack holds no fear for me.

Of course, I have some questions. Where does one install the balancer harness into a pack? I plan on using a123 blinky's.

I've been seriously considering a Xtrema charger, (I like the idea of the built in watt meter and the adjustability). I've considered a Balance Pro system but I'm not crazy about the non standard connections. What other charger options are being used...with success?

That's it for the moment...I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions.

"I understand that you guys aren't selling the turbo module separately because you don't want to run the risk of someone hooking it up to another type of battery... but I own the 9.9v 2300 pack and I'd like to be able to buy the turbo module if I want.... would you sell one to ME?

do I need to show you my name or proof of purchase in your system?

I didn't buy it when I got the battery and charger because I didn't think I was going to need it right away... but I'd like to have the option of getting it when I want..."
