The plans that I have show the measurement at 18.5". I don't think that 9/16" will make that much difference.

Indeed...worth noting I took that measurement off of my gear, not off the plans....so, it's entirely possible that the metal shop didn't get the angles exactly 45 degrees, and thus the difference.

As Bill says, however...shouldn't make a bit of difference.

Thanks

Really all I need is the measurement of the one. Once I know the first it accurate, then I can scale the second on the Tile Print program. If I was more computer savy, I could have gotten both using Tile Print, but my computer skills are pretty darn limited.

Ray,

I am asking this of you as the author. Will there be a set of scale plans developed of the S2-S Bulldog? I have several 1/4 and 1/3 Pitts plans that are really scale, really accurate but not for an S2-S. That Blackflight is nice little model but the construction technique is not comensurate with a 1/3 or 1/4 scale as a straight enlargement.

The AMA is non profit of course but I believe royalties are paid on some of the plans they sell.

A set of Bulldog plans, Whatever scales, in the hands of the AMA with the royalties paid to the lads trust fund may be an idea. Just thinking out loud here. After that, a glass parts and canopy maker and vinyl cutter or several of each could make and sell the parts for their fair market value to ensure plans sales.

I would pay a premium for a set of accurate S2-S plans if the profits went to the trust. The plans could show both the Bulldog and a stock S2-S which would increase the demand. The current 1/3 scale S2-A plans all date back to a 1976 design. This would be a lot of work and plugs would have to be made and lent to a manufacturer for use.

I have my hands full drawing other projects so I wish this was something I could buy. I think a lot of others would buy the plans as well. The profits from a good set of plans would keep on giving. Again, a lot of work. So is this project. I would gladley pay $75 extra for the trust on a copy of 1/3 S2-S plans. That would add up. The AMA has a set of WE Tech Waco plans that are $92. That can't be for copying alone.

I'm sure there isn't anything here that hasn't been considered throughout the thread. I just want a set of 1/3 scale S2-S plans and would pay for them handsomely if the profit went to the boy's education or well being.

Regards to all of you contributing.

Err...I beg to differ.

Precisely what Andrew's plans do.

JoeAverage,

These things have been considered, although not the AMA specifically. Thanks for your input on that.

The 1/3 scale plans we are using here are essentially a blown up version of the smaller plans. They are both BlackFlight plans drawn by myself with permission from Jim LeRoy for publication and/or kit sale. If something does happen with either set of plans, I would only release them under the condition that some proceeds go to Jim's estate.

Andrew

A note of update....I now have the short kit (provided by Joe) and have the tail group, the cabanes, and the wing cores. I am still waiting for the other formers, but have the wood to cut them myself. I have purchased the new balsa for the fuse sides (the fuse short kit is pure plywood and will prove to be very heavy). I will use the supplied sides as a pattern, and as a fuse doubler to just behind the wing saddle. I have also purchased the stringers, spar material and the leading and trailing edge material. I intend to set the servo tray up to utilize interior mounted servos since Jim's full scale did not have servos hanging out under the tail. I will set the rudder up for pull-pull, and the elevators up for twin servos. Gordon was nice enough to prevail on Mike Dunphy to provide the wing cores (thanks Mike) and is going to send me a cowl to finish. We are going to need a tail wheel set, a pair of 4" wheels and wheel pants. I am going to set the engine box to use a G-62, since there should be an opportunity to get one of these at a lower price than say a DA-100 or equivelant. A G-80 twin would really be nice here. The tank box will have adequate space for mounting the smoke tank. This is a fairly large box, but you can still run out of room quickly. Any help would be appreciated at this point (getting our hands on some parts)

Andrew,

I have built a tree to use in laying the model out. If you need the plans set that I have, please let me know, and I will either return them to you, or will forward them for you.

Gordon flew his yesterday. What a great show. You guys look at his thread in giant scale, and watch the video. Gawd, it's awesome. I got the new fuse sides put together this weekend, and will use the originals as doublers for the forward section (back to behind the wing saddle). Still don't have the 2 front formers.
