At this point 18 members of RC Universe have come together, and have decided after much discussion to build a Jim Leroy Bulldog Pitts Bipe as a team project. The way this project will work is that each builder will volunteer to build certain pieces of the Plane. Those pieces once complete will be sent to a designated member(RCKen), who will do the final assembly of the Plane. We are in the beginning stages of this build, and have several issues to iron out before the actual building will begin. This project once completed will be sold by some means undecided yet, and the funds donated to an RCU charity (Humane Society). The main goal of this project is to promote the joy of building Model Airplanes, and to also put the talents of these builders to use in helping to raise money for charity. Let me introduce you to our team of craftsmen!
1.ckangaroo70 (laser cutting) 2.RCKen (Ken will do final assembly, and is also the Graphics Sponsor for this build) 3.Stickbuilder (Stickbuilder will build the Main Fuselage for this project) 4.jeff1127 (Soldering) 5.DavidAgar 6.AllTheGoodNamesAreTaken (Elevators build) 7.krossk (Horizontal Stabilizer/ interplane struts build) 8.CubNut (CubNut will be doing the covering for this project and printing of the plans) 9.Paladin049 10.D Bronk 11.weathervane (Rudder Build) 12.teufelhund 13.Bipe Flyer (BipeFlyer is the build consultant and has Sponsored the Plan for this project) 14.Love1/4Scale (Love1/4Scale is our Team Webmaster and Top Wing Builder) 15.stuk at work 16.super tigre 17. john_s3 (Verticle Stabilizer build) 18. theo63
Special thanks to RC Universe for there support! If you want to help support one of the RCU charities now, just scroll to the very bottom of this page and you will find some worth while cause to help support. Yorkie Rescue | Humane Society | ASPCA | Crohn's-Colitis America
Each one of these people have graciously volunteered there time to aid in building this project from start to finish. This will be a fun and exciting build to follow along with, and once we get to rolling we will provide photos along the way. So check back here often to see how the RCU builders are comming along. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or joining the team, then you are welcome to pm any one of our team members and they should be able to provide you with information. Welcome all!
This charity project is also made possible by the generousity of Sig Mfg. http://www.sigmfg.com/
This build will done with the assistance of the program Tile Print. You can download the trial version or purchase the software by visiting this site http://www.blackflight.com/default.asp

Bill
Bipe Flyer said he had a set of plans for the Pitts Bulldog, so maybe wait for him to chime in and see what he has to say in regards to the plans he has. We also have a few people willing to print some plans out for the group, and there is also the option we discussed about using the program Tile Print. I have mainly always built kits, and had my plans put in the box for me! So you fellows that are used to starting from square one will probally have some better ideas and suggestions than what I could share. I am all ears!

We also need to decide on a size. Personally I would like to see no smaller than 1/4 scale and no larger than 1/3rd. 1/3 scale would probally present the most challenge and generate the most interest IMO.
Thanks for the link Chris. Actually I think we will probally all end up with a plan or partial plan done on the same plotter, or maybe just a couple different printers. I don't think we will all be printing! One or two will do the printing, and quite possibly on a big printer, and then the copys will be divided up, or pieces of a copy that contain parts a person has volunteered to build. We will come up with some good solution, and I don't see this being that big of an obstacle. We will figure this out quickly!

I would also like to see a 1/3 scale Pitts built. As soon as we decide on a plan to use ( I like the Bulldog) we can see who is going to build what pieces. Do we plan on doing a full out scale detail job ie: rib stitching, rivets, panel lines and detailed cockpit?? Anthony

I say we will probally detail it as far as people will volunteer to go on it. If there is a team member who wants to do something extra on the plane to make it more detailed, then I can't see many people objecting to that.

I would think that the size may depend largely on what kind of engine we can obtain. But I'd also like to see it in the 1/4 - 1/3 scale range.
This may be a bit premature, but I'd be willing to commit to whatever portion of the tail-feathers are available.
If it's possible, I'd also like to end up with or purchase a copy of a complete set of the plans as I'm sure when this project is done I'm going to have to build one of my own!
Bulldog Pitts!!!!! ..Hi Guys; I`ve used, Bipeflyers Tile print program, for a number of Scratch ,from drawings, builds now.And if a person can use a ruler to measure with. There`s no problem, with things going off scale..It`s an awesome program. Those wanting to try the program, He has a "Free"Trial offer at, http://www.blackflight.com/ .Here`s a few pics for Rcu members that have not seen what the Bulldog Pitts looks like ..Scale sizes, 1/3 would work out ,to about a,6 feet wing span. 50%= nearly 9 feet.I would think that, 1/4 scale, might be a touch small, @ about 4+1/2 feet, but that size, may be the easiest ,to ship back and forth..

This is going to be a blast. When it's time to divide parts up, I'd like to build something easy (i.e. the rudder). I don't want to let anyone down with something complex since I only have minimal experience building kits. -Andrew
